Crevillent will host its San Silvestre Internacional on Saturday, December 31 at 17:30. The 36th edition of the 10-kilometer race is officially on the international calendar of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation and will feature notable innovations and top guests.

Founded in 1981, the Crevillent Marathon Club has welcomed distinguished athletes over the years, and this year two former champions of the event will be in attendance as the post-pandemic edition returns to its normal rhythm. Yosef Ben Hadi and Yésica Mas will participate. The athlete who won the national marathon title this year will be the guest of honor for 2022.

The event will showcase a lineup of famous competitors, including Christina John, the current Spanish 5-kilometer champion, and Júlia Font, who earned a gold medal with the Spanish team in the women’s marathon at the Mountain & Trail Running World Cup held in Thailand. Alex Garcia Carrillo also stands out for his performance in uphill events, earning a world bronze, with Spain finishing as runner-up in both the uphill and classic routes at the world level. The gathering highlights Crevillent as a hub for elite running and community participation.

The festival will fill the streets of a town that faced strict anti-COVID measures last year and now looks to restore Crevillent’s historic prominence in the sport.

San Silvestre for kids

Morning activities begin with Mini San Silvestre for ages 4 to 11, with prior registration. The kids’ race will take place between 10:30 and 12:30 as a charity event coordinated by Antonio Luis Mas, president of the Marathon Club. Three euros from each registration will support the local Red Cross and the Alzheimer’s Association in Crevillent.

The Crevillente San Silvestre Internacional ranks as the second national event of its kind on the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation’s official list and offers substantial prizes. The absolute winners, both men and women, will receive 600 euros and a rug. Second place earns 450 euros and third place 400 euros. Prize money extends to the top eight finishers, attracting national athletes of high caliber.

The event calendar includes a photo-friendly finish area on Paseo de Fontenay where the atmosphere promises to mirror the pre-pandemic celebrations, according to the club president, who also outlined the high-powered sound system and multiple animation points along the course.

In addition to the traditional in-person competition, the event showcases strong civic support from the City Council, Enercoop, and the Crevillent brand, with an option to participate virtually until December 31. The race distances include 5 and 10 kilometers, with running, walking, and Nordic walking formats.

Registration remains open for this popular race. Bib numbers will be distributed from December 29 to 31 at the Omeyas de Crevillent Comparsa headquarters on Salitre Street. Mas notes a new feature this year: the race carpet design includes the profile of the municipality as a gift to each participant.
