Medvedeva addresses heart health rumors and Olympic career
Evgenia Medvedeva, the renowned Russian figure skater and two-time world champion, addressed rumors about her heart health in a message circulated on Telegram. The BeS Comments program, hosted by Stas Yarushin, referenced the skater’s earlier statements and clarified that she is feeling well today and that no health threat remains.
Medvedeva wants to reassure fans: the remarks were taken out of context, and they appeared in an episode of BeS Comments filmed more than a month ago. Doctors always look out for the patient, and while the initial reports may have seemed alarming, she explained that there is no cause for concern. “I want to reassure everyone. The news was taken out of context, and this was said in the BeS Comments episode with Stas Yarushin, which we filmed more than a month ago. Doctors always protect the patient. Even if everything isn’t that scary, I won’t go into details; I can just say that everything is fine now”, she stated.
At the Olympic Games in PyeongChang in 2018, Medvedeva earned the silver medal in the women’s singles, finishing behind Alina Zagitova. The competition highlighted a high-profile duel between the two Russian skaters and drew global attention to the rivalry that defined that season. She also contributed to Russia’s presence in the team events at those Games.
Beyond the Olympics, Medvedeva holds gold medals from World and European Championships, underscoring her status as one of the sport’s top performers of her generation. She last competed in December 2019, and in April 2023 she announced her retirement from competitive skating. The skater has also tested her versatility beyond the rink by appearing on the television show Ice Age on two occasions. In the show’s upcoming season, Zagitova is slated to be replaced as a co-host by a pairing featuring Alexei Yagudin, a development that has stirred interest among fans.
