The squad led by Jaime Garceda is ready to kick off in Group A of the Copa Libertadores, competing against Flamengo, Racing and Aucas from Ecuador. Chile will be represented early in the tournament, with Garceda’s team aiming for a landmark run in the Americas’ premier club competition. The campaign follows a strong finish in the 2022 National Championship, where the club ended the season just shy of the top spot with 52 points (14 wins, 10 draws, 6 losses), finishing behind Colo Colo.

In this edition, the club makes its second foray into CONMEBOL tournaments, following appearances in the Copa Sudamericana in 2008 and 2022. They were placed in Pot 4, a position that helped them avoid clubs such as Liverpool, Deportivo Pereira, Independiente Medellín, Atlético Mineiro, Sporting Cristal, Cerro Porteño and other notable rivals. The competition rules stipulate that no two teams from the same country can share a group, and teams are allocated according to the LigaRank rankings as of December 9, 2022.

The tournament is scheduled to begin in early April and run through late June, with the final held in November at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. The group winners and runners-up advance to the knockout rounds, while the third-placed team earns a spot in the CONMEBOL Sudamericana, entering a playoff against the second-placed team from each group in that competition. The playoff winner secures a place in the Libertadores Round of 16.
