Russian President’s Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov disclosed that Dmitry Azarov, the current governor of the Samara region, informed Vladimir Putin of his decision to pursue another term. The update came after Azarov briefed the president on the regional situation and the ambitious tasks facing Samara. Peskov noted that, with the governor’s term nearing its end this year, Azarov intends to nominate his candidacy in the upcoming elections. Putin extended his words of support, wishing Azarov success in the electoral process.
Azarov, who previously served as the governor of the Samara region, emphasized a key economic plan during a meeting with the president. He highlighted AvtoVAZ’s production goals, stating that the automaker aims to reach at least 400,000 vehicles and tool kits in the coming year. The plan reflects a broader strategy to boost regional industry and employment in Samara.
During discussions in late 2022, Azarov described a steady production tempo at AvtoVAZ, maintaining levels comparable to 2021. He reiterated that the 2023 strategy would focus on achieving the target of producing no fewer than 400,000 cars and associated tool kits, signaling a sustained commitment to automotive manufacturing in the region.
