Hugo Ibarra hospitalized as a precaution after a training session
The Boca Juniors coach experienced a health scare during a routine training session on Wednesday and spent the night under observation at a clinic to ensure his safety.
It was a typical Wednesday morning at the Boca facility in Ezeiza as the team prepared for the upcoming match against Instituto on Sunday, aiming to solidify the lineup for the eighth round of the league. Expectations were high that the training would clarify which players would start against Gloria, but an unexpected ambulance arrival changed the mood in an instant.
Hugo Ibarra, nicknamed El Negro, felt unwell during training and was taken to a clinic as a precaution. The incident surprised everyone, prompting a thorough medical check to rule out any serious condition.
WHAT HAPPENED TO IBARRA DURING TRAINING
On arrival at the complex, Ibarra complained of significant headaches and showed signs of distress, with visible nasal bleeding developing as the morning progressed. Medical staff evaluated him closely and decided that hospitalization would provide the best chance to stabilize his condition and monitor recovery.
In the afternoon, after initial assessments and stabilization, the Italian Hospital of San Justo reported that the coach was admitted at 11:30 am due to a prolonged nosebleed. The hospital notes indicated arterial-origin nasal epistaxis managed with topical treatment and confirmed that he remained stable, with plans for continued evaluation and follow up as needed.
After a night under observation, Ibarra was discharged on Thursday morning and returned home to rest and recover.
WHEN CAN YOU REGISTER AGAIN?
The club stated the hospitalization was a precautionary measure. A member of the football council suggested that Ibarra would most likely resume duties the next day, with an afternoon training session planned to prepare for Sunday’s game.
All signs pointed to the coach being ready to sit on the substitutes bench at La Bombonera when Boca faces Gloria on Sunday, barring any new developments.
