Guardamar del Segura hosts the 1st International Chess Festival during the Valencia Capital of Culture 2023 celebrations
Guardamar del Segura, proclaimed the Valencia Capital of Culture for 2023, steps into the global chess spotlight this week. The town welcomes up to 14 graduates from 11 nations who are part of the International Chess Federation in two parallel events: a slow game and a fast game, forming the core of the inaugural International Chess Festival. Organized by the local club Dama de Guardamar, in collaboration with the City Hall and Promochess Spain, the festival runs from today through Sunday at the Municipal House of Culture. The event promises wide broadcast coverage and a global audience, amplifying Guardamar’s cultural and sporting profile for audiences in Canada, the United States, and beyond. The festival is made visible through a schedule of worldwide streams, with broadcasting partners extending the reach of the matches to chess fans everywhere. This initiative highlights the region’s commitment to culture and sport, inviting players, teachers, and enthusiasts to participate in a week of competitive chess and cultural exchange.
