When is the draw held and how does the structure work for the 2023 South American Cup?

The lottery is set for Monday, March 27, the same day the Copa Libertadores 2023 groups will be determined as well.

According to Conmebol regulations, the draw operates as follows:

There are 32 teams in play — 16 directly qualified and 16 advancing from the first round — divided into eight groups of four, with all teams competing in the group stage.

The method used to place teams into pots and form the groups is defined by the Conmebol ranking system as of December 9, 2022. The eight highest-ranked clubs become the seeded teams for the groups.

The next block comprises the eight teams that follow in the Conmebol Club Ranking from December 9, 2022.

The third block includes the eight teams that come after them in the same ranking.

The fourth block combines four teams from the Libertadores knockout stage with the four remaining teams according to the final ranking up to December 9, 2022.
