The Dimayor has set the rules to decide which team moves on to the League Final if teams finish level on points.
Eight clubs are split into two groups of four for the semifinals of the BetPlay League 2023, the first half of the year. The competition features many of the country’s historic giants, including América de Cali, Millonarios, Atlético Nacional, and Atlético Medellín, all vying for the two spots that lead to the grand final and crown a new champion.
The matches ended in a draw, so the final round is expected to deliver a tight conclusion in each group, with two or more teams still in contention as the day unfolds.
When points are tied in the Quadrangulars, the following criteria determine which side advances in the title race.
How is the finalist decided if teams are equal on points in the group?
The top team in each group after six dates earns a place in the Grand Final, which is contested in home-and-away format. Based on the official competition rules, the tiebreakers during this stage work as follows:
If there is a tie in Phase II standings within the Semi-Final Quadrangulars between clubs finishing first and second in Phase I standings, the first and second place teams in Phase I qualify for Phase III, the Final.
If a tie occurs in Phase II among clubs ranked third through eighth in Phase I, the following tie-breaking criteria apply in the stated order of precedence:
1. The largest goal difference for Phase II, in the semi-final home runs, of the BetPlay DIMAYOR I 2023 League.
2. The greater number of goals scored during Phase II, the semi-final home runs, of the BetPlay DIMAYOR I 2023 League.
3. The higher tally of away goals scored in Phase II, the semi-final home runs, of the BetPlay DIMAYOR I 2023 League.
4. The fewest goals conceded away from home in Phase II, the semi-final home runs, of the BetPlay DIMAYOR I League 2023.
5. The team with the least number of yellow cards in Phase II, the semi-final home runs, of the BetPlay DIMAYOR I 2023 League.
6. The team with the fewest red cards in Phase II, the semi-final home runs, of the BetPlay DIMAYOR I League 2023.
7. The club with the best standing in Phase I among all teams in the group stage table, All Against All.
