Chesnokov: Medvedev should have beaten Tiafoe with more comfortable advantage 12:40

Well-known Soviet and Russian tennis player Andrei Chesnokov talked about Daniil Medvedev’s defeat of US representative Francis Tiafoe with a score of 7:5, 7:6 (7:4) in the semi-finals of the ATP tournament at American Indian Wells. The expert analyzed in detail the most controversial parts of the match, noting that at one point Medvedev lost the game. But Chesnokov believes that the final victory of Daniil speaks of his good psychological state.

“Medvedev and Tiafoe have played before, Medvedev won pretty easily. As for this match, the score was 7:5 in the first set, but in theory Daniil should have won with a more comfortable advantage. If we take only the intrigue in the filing of Medvedev, then there was none. It seems that the hardest thing for him was to score 30:30 in a game and everything else was easy enough.

Of course, Tiafoe tried to impose her game with sharp and fast shots. Thanks to them, he defeated Cameron Norrie, who could not cope with these blows. Many can’t keep up with the pace Tiafoe set. But Medvedev is in such a situation right now – he catches everything, some impossible balls, impossible hits.

At the same time, Tiafoe’s shuttle hung at 0:40. That’s how he behaved at that moment, showing some emotions – this somewhat discouraged Medvedev. Then the people got their support. Against this background, when there were breaking points, Daniil played poorly – not in one match, but in the entire match. Let’s say 3:1 and 15:40 in the second set. Had he won this match, Tiafoe’s parade would have ended because I think the score would have been 5:1 ahead. And since Medvedev lost this match, the score was 3:2, it was necessary to protect his serve. After – 4-3. With a score of 5:3, Tiafoe played three match points, the audience was delighted. Medvedev really lost the game at that moment. Then – the next game, another match point, and yet Tiafoe took a break.

With the score 5:5, Medvedev was back in the game, forgetting that he had lost three game points, and started playing the tennis he had shown earlier when he scored. The score is 6:5 and 40:0 – how does Medvedev lose his serve with such a score? And he ran and ran into the net – did he do this at least once in the entire match? But all of a sudden he rushed to the matchball and lost. Then there was an unnecessary mistake, Tiafoe played great in the last match point and everything went in the opposite direction. The tie-break had a 5:1 score and suddenly it was 5:4 – I didn’t know if he could win in the end. But Daniel took two excellent shots and won. This shows that his psychological state is great,” Chesnokov told socialbites.ca.

formerly Chesnokov hopedThat Medvedev would surpass his success at Indian Wells.
