Vox has already lined up a candidate for next year’s regional elections, set for late May unless political momentum alters the timetable. The party revealed its leading list with a surprising choice, dropping several familiar figures such as current district legislator David García, national deputy Ignacio Gil Lázaro, and a trusted official long considered a strong performer in recent months. The site notes Ana Vega from the Valencia Courts in Alicante as part of the background. Vox leader Santiago Abascal appeared to be fully aware of the regional dynamics, recognizing polls that position the party as the third most-voted force. In this scenario, a change of government could elevate popular figure Carlos Mazón to the presidency in the Valencian Community.
Applicant
The candidate, ultimately chosen by Vox, is a professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Valencia. Carlos Flores Juberias leads the ticket for the upcoming regional elections. He holds a Law degree and a PhD from the University of Valencia, along with a Political Science degree from UNED, earning top marks in both studies. He currently teaches Constitutional Law and has held that post since 1989. Flores has also served on the Valencia Community electoral board since 2015 and was elected to the executive committee of the Transparency Council in 2016. His research includes several collective studies on electoral processes, party systems, the constitutionalization of new institutions, and the European integration processes in Eastern Europe.
With cuffs in the air
As Flores announced on social media, Vox’s national executive committee formally confirmed his appointment, accepting the responsibility and pledging to act with diligence. He stated that after four intense and productive decades devoted to study, teaching, and advocating constitutional values, the moment has arrived for academia to take a step forward and assume new responsibilities. He added that there is nothing better than joining a capable and courageous team that has demonstrated seriousness and persistence from the Valencia Cortes benches. The speaker noted that this team is even more valuable than the one led by Santiago Abascal in Madrid.
Spokesperson in Courts
Vox’s spokesperson in the Valencian Parliament, Ana Vega, expressed the group’s joy at Flores’s election. She described the nomination as a lucky outcome, noting that it aligns with the draw of lots in a Christmas lottery. Vega argued that Flores is the right candidate to reverse policies she characterizes as libertarian and left-leaning after eight years. She emphasized that liberties would be a focus after the Christmas period and during the pre-election campaign. When asked about Flores’s future, she replied that she was happy to work with him and would follow the party’s guidance on his path forward.
