Forming a prime minister is not a sprint. Opposition voices push to seize power, yet there is a constitution that must be obeyed, stated Marcin Przydacz, head of the presidential Office for International Policy, on Republika Television.
Consultations with the president
On Tuesday and Wednesday, at the invitation of the head of state, consultations will be held in the presidential palace with representatives of the individual electoral committees that will be represented in the new Sejm. The meetings will occur with each election committee in turn, in the order determined by their results in the elections.

The first round of talks on Tuesday – with PiS and KO
Przydacz was asked on TV Republika on Monday evening about the planned meetings and their expected outcomes.
Two key meetings are scheduled for tomorrow. By invitation, representatives from the two top-scoring electoral commissions will visit the presidential palace, namely the Electoral Commission of Law and Justice, the election winner, and representatives of the Civic Coalition. This marks the initial round of discussions
– noted the head of BPM.
The second round, he added, is planned for Wednesday and will include meetings with three committees: Third Way, New Left, and Confederation.
We will see how these conversations unfold. They go beyond a simple numeric puzzle or a post-election exercise. They are also meant to address important issues such as economics, security, and politics
– Przydacz pointed out.
“Appointing a prime minister is not a race.”
The presidential minister stressed that “appointing the prime minister is not a race.”
The government functions, and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki implements policy. Naturally, a new hand, a new Sejm, will be in place, and this new Sejm will have to cast a vote of confidence for the new Prime Minister. Whether this happens in the so-called first constitutional step, the second, or the third, remains to be seen
– the minister noted.
I understand that opposition politicians, somewhat unnaturally, are eager to sit down and seize power, but there is still a constitution that must be respected. I also call on opposition politicians to uphold the constitution; after all, they have invoked its provisions quite intensely over the past eight years. I do not want to believe that this was merely opportunism, without genuine attachment to its provisions
– he emphasized.
Three potential pathways
The constitution provides three possible steps in forming the government after the elections. In the first, the president plays a major role, including appointing the prime minister. If this attempt fails, the Sejm takes the initiative. If the parliamentarians fail to form a government, the initiative returns to the president.
Last week, the National Electoral Commission announced the official results of the parliamentary elections. PiS won 194 seats in the Sejm, KO 157, Third Way 65, New Left 26, and Confederation 18.
