When appointing the government, the president will act in line with the constitution while weighing Poland’s political landscape, said Marcin Przydacz, head of the presidential Office for International Policy.

The President Will Follow the Constitution

Regarding the opposition’s push to appoint a prime minister, the president will clearly consider votes from individual parliamentary committees.

Marcin Przydacz, a former Law and Justice member who leads the International Policy Office in the Chancellery of the President, told TVN24 that the actual majority will be determined by the Sejm. He noted that the president will respond to any proposal in light of constitutional rules, yet he also stressed that political reality will influence the outcome.

Asked what action the president would take if political leaders presented a list of MPs backing a government not led by PiS, Przydacz replied that the president would act in accordance with the constitution while also taking into account the current political reality and the parliamentary winners in Poland.

Who holds the strongest potential parliamentary bloc in the current assembly? Przydacz highlighted the importance of the electoral results and the composition of the new Sejm in shaping possibilities for a government.

Duda–Morawiecki Meeting

Przydacz also commented on the informal discussions between President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at the presidential palace. He stressed that he was not part of the talks and noted that the conversations concerned the situation after the elections.

He suggested that the president may be exploring future options for forming a government, underscoring that the president holds a key constitutional role in Poland’s political process.

Przydacz added that inquiries and discussions are taking place at various levels. The presidential team maintains ongoing dialogue with other politicians to equip the president with as much information as possible as the process unfolds.

Appointments for Judges and Evaluators

The discussion also touched on President Duda’s recent decisions to appoint judges and court evaluators. Przydacz emphasized that these appointments followed a consistent approach, occurring at roughly the same time as in earlier periods around late summer and early autumn.

Speaking from the presidential palace, Przydacz noted that judicial appointments involve regular visits by judges for ceremonies and confirmations. He stressed that the president has a duty to appoint judges and that this authority is exercised in accordance with established procedures.
