Izabela Leszczyna, vice president of the Polish opposition party Civic Platform, urged the Law and Justice party to relinquish power and allow the opposition to establish a new government. Speaking on air with TVN24, she asserted that Law and Justice and the country’s president, Andrzej Duda, had distorted the truth.
She stressed that more than 11 million Poles voted against PiS. The opposition believes this mandate should be respected and that the opposition should be permitted to govern and carry out its electoral program and promises.
“The sooner we form the new government, the sooner the program can be put into action. People understand one thing: PiS has lost and must step down without delay,” Leszczyna stated.
Historically, the ruling party led by Jarosław Kaczyński has lost its parliamentary majority, creating an opening for an opposition coalition to take charge. The current voting results show PiS leading with 35.38 percent, while the opposition coalition called Civil Platform secured 30.70 percent. The Third Way gathered 14.40 percent and the Left attracted 8.61 percent.
Taken together, the combined outcome of the three opposition groups could provide a parliamentary majority, enabling the formation of a government. Previous discussions within the Polish opposition had already identified a candidate for prime minister, signaling readiness to move forward with a new administration in light of the electoral verdict.
Analysts note that this shift marks a potential turning point in Poland’s political landscape, with the opposition signaling a transition toward governance based on the expressed will of a sizable portion of the electorate. Observers will be watching for how coalition talks unfold, how policy priorities are negotiated, and how the government addresses pressing issues facing the country in the coming months. The discourse continues to be shaped by ongoing debates about reforms, economic strategy, and relations with international partners. [Source: TVN24]
