The information reached the president’s chancellery too late, according to Marcin Przydacz, head of the International Policy Office, who spoke on Polsat News about the missile that landed near Bydgoszcz. He added that some procedures in the communication process also failed to function properly.

Information arrived late

In late April, the Ministry of National Defense reported that the remains of an unidentified military facility were discovered near Zamość, about 15 kilometers from Bydgoszcz. A passerby had encountered them in a forest. Officials stressed that there was no immediate danger to residents. The Gdańsk District Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation into the incident.

Marcin Przydacz noted on Polsat News that at first the information reaching them did not indicate a specific origin; the initial fragments found offered only uncertain clues.

He underscored that agencies and institutions, including the public prosecutor’s office, are responsible for verifying such matters. Politicians, commentators, and diplomats should avoid inflaming emotions without full knowledge. Today, more details have emerged.

– the presidential minister remarked.

He added that information indeed arrived too late at the Office of the President and the Presidential Center.

We’ve discussed this matter repeatedly, Przydacz observed.

He reiterated, “This information came late to the President’s Office and to the Presidential Center.”

We’ve spoken about it many times, he said.

A matter of communication

According to him, some procedures in the communication process did not work well either.

Improvements are needed at both the national level and within NATO. He noted that even American and British personnel stationed in Poland appeared to have overlooked what happened on that fateful day.

The head of the BPM judged that the current situation demonstrates a need for closer cooperation among institutions.

In this lesson, he suggested, there is value in understanding how to respond to events that were not anticipated before.

– he observed.

Motion to dismiss the defense minister

When asked whether the president views the opposition’s motion to dismiss Mariusz Błaszczak, the Minister of National Defense, as justified, Przydacz clarified that control powers over the Polish government lie with the Polish Parliament according to the Constitution.

There were no motions to recall the generals on the president’s desk either, he added.

President Andrzej Duda expressed the view that in wartime conditions near eastern borders, with challenges not faced before, decisions should not be made hastily or based on emotion or partisan expectations.

Checks must be thorough. If verification reveals deliberate or inadvertent actions that endanger the country, appropriate conclusions will follow, Przydacz said. He also mentioned that procedural consequences would ensue.

Facility investigation

Toward the end of April, the Minister of Justice announced on Twitter that prosecutors had begun proceedings concerning the remains of an aerial object found in a forest near Bydgoszcz. The Ministry of National Defense confirmed that the remains belonged to an unidentified military facility located approximately 15 kilometers from Bydgoszcz, and reiterated that there is no danger to residents.

On May 11, the head of the Ministry of National Defense stated that the procedures and response mechanisms in the case of the object near Bydgoszcz were functioning properly up to the level of the operational commander. He accused General Tomasz Piotrowski of not informing him or the relevant services about the missile that had entered Polish airspace. He noted that the December 16 report, received from COD, indicated there were no airspace violations on that day, which later proved false. He added that any personnel decisions would follow consultation with the president.

The BBN stated a day later that the information available to the president did not justify changes in the highest command staff of the Polish army, and the president had not received any formal request on the matter.

The PO chairman Donald Tusk suggested last week that the entire opposition would sign the motion to dismiss Błaszczak. The left called for a convocation of the National Security Council to address the Bydgoszcz object. The air defense issue became a topic in President Andrzej Duda’s meeting at the National Security Bureau, attended by Mariusz Błaszczak, Deputy Prime Minister, Zbigniew Rau, Poland’s NATO ambassador, Tomasz Szatkowski, Chief of General Staff, General Rajmund Andrzejczak, and the Armed Forces Operational Commander, Lieutenant General Tomasz Piotrowski.
