Poland reached out to the United States to help clear up uncertainties surrounding a Russian-made missile, whose remnants were located near Bydgoszcz, according to the Polish portal rmf24.pl. The outlet indicated that Polish authorities will work closely with American counterparts to shed light on the case.
Cooperation between Poland and the US
RMF24.pl reports that Poland requested assistance from the United States to address lingering questions about the Russian-built missile found near Bydgoszcz. Warsaw hopes to obtain materials that could reveal the missile’s flight path and the timing of its launch, and possibly show whether the object was captured by some U.S. monitoring systems. The outlet notes that Polish services are already coordinating with American agencies on this matter.
Missile debris found near Bydgoszcz
Last week the Ministry of National Defense said that the remains of an unidentified military device were discovered near Zamość, about 15 kilometers from Bydgoszcz. Officials stressed that the discovery does not threaten public safety. The Gdańsk District Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the incident.
On Friday, Lieutenant General Tomasz Piotrowski, the operational commander of the armed forces, stated that investigations and checks are proceeding at a rapid pace and that there is ongoing dialogue among multiple institutions to determine how the equipment ended up there and what its origins might be. He also drew a connection to Russian air strikes on Ukraine in mid-December and warned of possible psychological operations by Russia.
Several theories have emerged and there are threads that might relate to the event near Bydgoszcz, Piotrowski suggested in a media briefing.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced on Friday that he had instructed the Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak to personally oversee the investigation and to supervise all activities aimed at achieving a definitive understanding of the object found near Bydgoszcz.
