Is Civic Platform worried about a weak turnout at Donald Tusk’s march? According to Gazeta Wyborcza, extra buses are being organized for Warsaw, with PO activists describing the response as a sign of strong interest. The editorial from Czerska notes that 400 buses are expected from across Poland, and there are even plans to rent trains from Katowice and Wrocław to reach the capital.

PO brings reinforcements to Warsaw

Wojciech Saługa, head of the Silesian PO and a deputy, told Gazeta Wyborcza that the Śląskie province alone would contribute at least 44 buses to the march in Warsaw. Platform politicians are funding transport, and there are discussions about whether supporters of Tusk’s party might contribute funds to cover travel costs.

In turn, the Silesian PO spokesman Łukasz Borkowski stated that there are virtually no free coaches available in the region on that day, leading to a suspension of registrations because volunteers are flooding the system. As a result, activists from Silesia proposed renting a special train capable of carrying about 300 people to the capital.

The train was able to depart from Katowice and reach Warsaw Gdańska. The rental cost for the train is at least 37,000 złoty. The move is framed as a strategic psychological effect in politics. Each passenger would be charged roughly 133 złoty. Some observers question whether that amount is reasonable for supporters of the march.

A close source to Election notes that a final decision has not yet been made, since the overall expense of attending the march cannot exceed the perceived value of the march itself. The PO acknowledges its own limited resources ahead of the campaign season.

Meanwhile, the Lower Silesia PO has already ordered 30 carriages and is considering renting a train for the event. The Podkarpackie regional leader mentioned plans for 15 buses, and Gazeta Wyborcza reports that regional activists have indicated the arrival of up to 400 buses into Warsaw for the rally.

Tusk march in the capital

In mid-April, Donald Tusk, the chair of PO, announced a march to take place on June 4 at noon in Warsaw. The event is framed as a protest against high prices, corruption, and political lies, and it calls for free elections and a democratic, European Poland. Borys Budka, head of the KO club, suggested that the gathering could boost the party’s television viewership and public attention.

The speaker expressed confidence that the June 4 march would provide strong momentum. He described it as a moment for people of goodwill who share a common vision for change in Poland. For him, the date holds symbolic power and signals a kick-off for the election campaign, with expectations that summer organizing could translate into poll gains and electoral momentum.

Budka spoke on TOK FM about these expectations.

Questions remain about whether Civic Platform fears a turnout shortfall for the event in the capital and which opposition figures will participate in the June 4 march in Warsaw.
