“Things can hardly get worse, and there is a hope that wiser voices within the popular movement will decide before the vote what steps to take and which values to defend. This possibility remains,” stated attorney Marek Markiewicz on Salon Dziennikarski. Guests on Michał Karnowski’s program included Marzena Nykiel, editor-in-chief of the wPolityce.pl portal, Maciej Pawlicki, a publicist and director, and Miłosz Manasterski.

Diagnosis of the political situation

The participants of the Journalists Salon were invited to assess the Polish political landscape. Attorney Marek Markiewicz bluntly noted that the situation could still worsen.

He expressed hope that the more thoughtful voices among the popular movement would decide what to do and which values to defend before the vote. The idea was not dismissed outright.

– the lawyer commented. He added that statements about the prosecutor joining investigative committees were illegal and irrelevant in his view.

According to Markiewicz, a prosecutor can participate in the Sejm Commission if he shares the prosecutor’s assessment and analyzes the situation. He argued against claims that such involvement would be harnessed for election campaigns. The current remark about deploying prosecutors to ministries, he said, is astonishing.

– emphasized the lawyer. However, Maciej Pawlicki offered a different outlook, suggesting a potentially graver future.

“We anticipated various developments, and the scenario could be worse. There could be outcomes never seen before in rule of law. Yet the core issue seems not lying in what happens next but in how it is reflected upon,” Pawlicki remarked.

The director added that the reflection should center on recent events and that mere monitoring of sensational moves or sarcasm does not suffice.

He observed that those who gained seats but lost the public trust would like to understand future directions. The lack of coalition-building, the gamble with a single number, and the unwillingness of certain groups to cooperate have contributed to the current state, he argued.

– Pawlicki continued. When asked if this was a search for excuses or self-consolation, the director warned against a simplistic narrative that forces of opposition are already in one camp. The real task is to expand the base of the independence camp beyond a few million votes.

– added Pawlicki. In response, Markiewicz recalled a remark by Professor Ryszard Legutko about national shortcomings. He also referenced comments about Poles wanting to strike at PiS and undermine it.

Yet Pawlicki offered a contrasting view, saying he did not agree with the PiS MEP’s words.

The discussion noted a familiar pattern in Poland. The popular movement is expected to vote, and the question remains whether it defends religious heritage or political power. The idea that this hesitation aligns with a held belief of God was dismissed.

– Markiewicz replied. The arguments underscored disagreements about core loyalties in the political spectrum.

Communication problem

Marzena Nykiel, editor-in-chief of wPolityce.pl, identified a communication gap within the United Right camp. She argued that it is easy to spread attitudes that do not require heroism and that attracting young people to participate without significant effort can be challenging.

She suggested that the conservative language might feel heavy to some audiences and that outreach to different regions has not always been effective. The Women’s Strike and KOD demonstrations were cited as examples, with claims that political and business forces supported them and that boundaries were pushed for years.

– Nykiel stated. She noted that the lack of a response when the Women’s Strike promoted a provocative slogan was telling. A similar boundary shift occurred in Jagodno after the election silence ended, with provocative chants and slogans about pursuing PiS.

Today, the trend has intensified. Hołownia is described as a parliamentary illusionist who cloaks democracy in appealing rhetoric, while Tusk is portrayed as distant from genuine democratic processes. The Sejm proceedings are depicted as an entertainment spectacle meant to attract viewers, sometimes in cinema-like settings with popcorn.

– Nykiel commented. She urged that the United Right needs a clear response and that democracy should not be treated as a tool for revenge behind the scenes.

Miłosz Manasterski argued that there is little time for exhaustive analysis and that voters will face new elections soon. The call is for a swift, principled response from conservative society, including religious institutions and allied organizations that share these values.

– Manasterski added. The piece also suggested continuing coverage with additional commentary on the evolving plan to counter PiS from various political actors. The questions about the origin of decisions and the motives behind the rhetoric persist.
