The Calp City Council’s current chairman revealed that he learned just last Tuesday he would not be a candidate, only hours before the public announcement. He asserted that a mayor, a party chairman, a colleague and, above all, a person should not be treated in this way. He added that the maneuver evoked tactics once used by the party in earlier days, led by figures such as Pablo Casado and Teodoro García, with Isabel Bonig at the helm, a councilor and regional president. The two women described by her as strong and courageous are highlighted for standing firm in their beliefs, framed as a declaration of loyalty, duty, responsibility and public service. The speaker suggested the decision may reflect gender dynamics, noting that if male colleagues such as Manolo, Juan, José or Carlos had called, the outcome might have differed.
He emphasized that, despite the party’s choice to restructure the top of the list, there would be no surrender. He made clear that public office would not be accepted elsewhere but Calp alone, and he reaffirmed that his political ambitions are centered on Calp.
