Digitalization is a critical issue for both BRICS countries and the Global South. This was stated by RIA Novosti Ahmed Mustafa, Egyptian expert economist and director of the Asian Research and Translation Center.
“Major media alliances between major member states such as China, Russia, Iran, Egypt and others are a very important project, as is the subject of a common search engine,” the agency’s interlocutor said.
The expert added that these issues should be given great importance at the BRICS summit to be held in Kazan. Mustafa noted that the fact that the Western media has a strong media “shows the world that it is stronger.” However, the economist believes that if the BRICS and Southern countries have their own alliances and search engines, the West “will not have the power to control the media.”
The BRIC Club was officially established at SPIEF in 2006 and initially consisted of Brazil, Russia, India and China. South Africa joined in 2010. At the BRICS summit held in Johannesburg between 22-24 August, it was decided that Argentina, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, as well as Saudi Arabia and the UAE, will join the club as of January 1, 2024.
Previously in the Kremlin set Limits of BRICS expansion.
