“There is no agreement between the Confederation and the AfD; Participation in the group in the European Parliament, co-founded by the German AfD, is the election of three members of the European Parliament belonging to New Hope,” the leader of the Confederation, Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Krzysztof Bosak, stressed in the PAP Studio.
The Confederation consists of the following formations: Nowa Nadzieja (formerly KORWiN), Ruch Narodowy and Konfederacja Korony Polskiej. In this year’s European Parliament elections, the Confederation won six seats. Three MEPs from New Hope: Stanisław Tyszka, Marcin Sypniewski and Ewa Zajączkowska-Hernik, decided to join the Europe of Sovereign Nations group, which was co-founded by AfD among others. Tyszka took on the position of vice-chair of the group.
I want to clearly emphasize that there is no agreement between the Confederation and the AfD
– said Bosak in the PAP Studio.
He noted that members of the European Parliament affiliated with his party, the National Movement, have not joined the group co-founded by the AfD.
The individual decision was made by the MPs of New Hope, of Sławomir Mentzen, and direct any comments or criticism to them, because it is their decision
– said Bosak.
He admitted that he and New Hope work together, but at the same time stressed that everyone has to bear the consequences of their choices, as long as they make different decisions individually.
Nowa Nadzieja made his own calculation
Bosak stated that Nowa Nadzieja had made her own calculations and judged that the benefits were greater than the losses. He stressed that the National Movement’s calculation was the opposite: it concluded that “the losses would be greater than the benefits”.
We have not managed, as expected, to conclude talks on joining other political groups before the first session (of the European Parliament), such as Patriots for Europe or European Conservatives and Reformists – these are the other two euro-critical groups
– said Bosak.
He judged that “it was possible to reach an agreement quickly and easily with the most radical grouping, but on the other hand, more difficult talks could have been held, which means” that members of the National Movement have no ties with the European Parliament, at least temporarily. Bosak assured that MEPs from the National Movement would not join the Europe of Sovereign Nations.
Grzegorz Braun is not conducting talks
The other members of the Confederation, apart from the three members of New Hope, are: Anna Bryłka and Tomasz Buczek, from the Barefoot National Movement, and Grzegorz Braun from the Confederation of the Polish Crown. According to PAP information, Braun is not in talks. Some PAP sources indicate that the EP groups do not want him to join their ranks.
The Europe of Sovereign Nations consists of: the German Alternative for Germany (AfD), which has 14 MEPs, three MEPs from the Polish Confederation, three MEPs from the Bulgarian Renaissance and one MEP each from the French Reconquete, the Slovak Republic, the Czech Freedom and Direct Democracy, the Hungarian Our Homeland movement and the Lithuanian Union of People and Justice.
These parties are united in their opposition to the EU’s approach to migration, the Green Deal and military aid to Ukraine, which – as Euronews notes – puts them on a collision course with the mainstream.
Romanowski’s detention a ‘political show’
Krzysztof Bosak also said in the PAP Studio that “it is good that the court does not follow the dictates of the Minister of Justice.”
I have the impression that the authorities wanted to make a political show for society, because they don’t have many successes to boast about, and to make such a media arrest that the Internal Security Service comes to someone, there are cameras, is the simplest thing. (…) Contrary to the announcements of depoliticization of the prosecutor’s office, we are dealing with greater politicization, or the same as under PiS
– he judged.
The Confederation politician said that forceful detention of a suspect makes sense if he avoids contact with the legal system, and in this case Romanowski reported last Friday (when the Sejm waived his immunity and approved his detention and arrest) that he was in favor of abolishing the prosecutor’s office. He added that this is “crude social engineering that deserves nothing but contempt.”
According to Bosak, requesting Romanowski’s arrest is pointless if the entire case is based on documents collected by the Ministry of Justice’s Prosecutor’s Office and originating from house searches and recordings. He added that in this case it is difficult to talk about manipulation in the criminal proceedings.
He also stressed that cases of abuse in spending money from the Justice Fund should be thoroughly investigated by the courts, and the guilty officials and ministers should be held accountable. He added that Romanowski, like all Poles, deserved a swift and efficient procedure in this case.
