In local elections in Turkey, the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) showed the best results, including in the key city of Istanbul, where CHP supporter Ekrem İmamoğlu remained as mayor.

Political scientist Obraztsov notes that he did not object to the results of the elections, in which Erdogan’s AKP was defeated and received only 11 mayoral posts in the capital’s municipalities.

“CHP had good positions before. Actually, Erdoğan has nothing to worry about yet. He solved the problems quite skillfully after the 2023 earthquake, but later the party condemned him for ignoring the problems of immigrants. Accordingly, the president also discussed this issue, but he did not have time, and this was the result,” Obraztsov said.
