Has the Minister of Agriculture actually started talks with the Ukrainian side on resolving the crisis affecting Polish farmers due to the influx of food products from Ukraine? “We are dealing with information and strategic chaos in this matter,” MPs Mariusz Błaszczak, Waldemar Buda and Krzysztof Jabłoński said during a short conference before today’s morning inspection on this issue at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
At the outset, MP Błaszczak recalled the embargo imposed on September 16, 2023 by the previous United Right government on cereal products imported from Ukraine into the Polish market and that “today it is necessary to take measures that will end the embargo will expand to other food products. .”
Actions or just words?
The PiS Parliamentary Club submitted an appropriate resolution to the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, obliging the government to extend the embargo. Unfortunately, this resolution was sent to the Agriculture Committee and was therefore shelved by the coalition’s parliamentary majority on December 13.
– he remembered. He emphasized that we “need to talk to the Ukrainian side at the same time.”
There is an idea of returning to limits, quotas, as it were, for food products imported from Ukraine. The ruling majority is talking about it. We want to find out whether these are just words or whether there are actions behind these words. This is the subject of our inspection, which will begin shortly
– said MP Mariusz Błaszczak.
Today, Poland’s borders can be closed with one regulation
Today, one regulation can close Poland’s borders against the influx of agricultural products from Ukraine. One regulation of the Minister of Development and Technology. We did this for grains. Initially in April even for all agrifood products
– recalled MP Waldemar Buda.
“There are no details or findings from these negotiations.”
Today we are told that there is no need to extend this arrangement because the government is discussing and will settle this issue in talks with Ukraine. We hear publicly that there is only a conflict and an exchange of blows with Ukraine, but there are no details or agreements from these negotiations. That is why we will come here today and ask what the status of negotiations is to resolve this issue in bilateral relations
– explained the PiS MP.
We suspect that these conversations mean nothing, that they have not progressed very far, that absolutely nothing is happening and that the regulations will not be introduced anyway. We will look into what has happened in this matter over the past three months
– added.
We will see if Kołodziejczak is right if Siekierski does nothing
Buda also recalled a bizarre situation when Deputy Minister Kołodziejczak accused his superior, Minister Siekierski, of not doing anything!
We are checking whether Minister Kołodziejczak is actually right. We will check what documents have been created, what draft documents there are in this matter and what is the state of negotiations with the Ukrainians
– he declared
We can arrange this with one arrangement. You must have courage. Do not be afraid of both the Ukrainian side and the European Union. You must rise from your knees in this matter. If negotiations take place, we will see how far they go and where they can lead in the near future
– he remembered.
Information and strategic chaos
We are dealing with information and strategic chaos in this matter. Informative because the Polish government is talking about talks. On the other hand, from the Ukrainian side, absolutely unacceptable words have been uttered by the highest representatives of the Ukrainian authorities. This gives the impression that no conversations are actually taking place
Strategic chaos, because the Polish government says words that no one in Poland can accept. When the head of the parliamentary committee for foreign affairs, Paweł Kowal, says that Ukraine is not responsible for the massacre in Volhynia, these are words that should be met with universal condemnation in Poland.
– explained the former deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MP Krzysztof Jabłoński, and does not rule out that the management of the current Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also ask about this situation.
Our overall relations with Ukraine for many years to come must be based primarily on pursuing our interests in mutual respect with the other side.
– he said, emphasizing that “Poland supports Ukraine in repelling Russian aggression.”
The crisis at the Polish-Ukrainian border coincides with and is linked to the ongoing peasant protests in Poland and Europe. Polish farmers’ demands include simplifying and reducing the requirements of the Green Deal, limiting the inflow of agri-food goods from Ukraine and improving the profitability of agricultural production.
