Minister Radosław Sikorski decided that Polish interests in the EU would be better represented by Piotr Serafin; the president had previously informed that Ambassador Andrzej Sadoś would be summoned for consultations, said Paweł Wroński, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He emphasized that Sadoś is still ambassador, but he does not have to work.
Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the current Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the EU, Andrzej Sadoś, has been recalled to the country and relieved from the obligation to work, and from December 13, 2023 the Permanent Representation to the EU The EU in Brussels is led by Piotr Serafin, with the rank of minister plenipotentiary.
““Rank of Representatives”
At a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spokesman Wroński emphasized that “Poland’s rank comes from the rank of its representatives.”
Ambassador Sadoś, with all due respect, does not represent the same kind of political force as Piotr Serafin, well known and respected in Brussels, who also enjoys the full confidence of Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
– said Vronsky.
He added that “if we want Polish interests to be well represented in Brussels, it is better that they are represented by someone who has the confidence of the Prime Minister, who is his man, who knows all the corridors in Brussels, who solved problems there.” , did not create them, than Ambassador Sadoś, who carried out the orders of the previous government, which was not particularly Euro-enthusiastic.” Andrzej Sadoś has been Poland’s ambassador to the EU since 2018.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted that Minister Radosław Sikorski had previously informed President Andrzej Duda about the step regarding the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the EU – “that he would request the recall of the Ambassador (Sadoś ) for consultation, but this does not mean that the ambassador should be recalled.”
As Wroński added, the Prime Minister cannot appoint an ambassador.
Mr. Piotr Serafin is not an ambassador, he is a minister plenipotentiary, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs operates here exactly within the framework of the constitution and laws
– he assured.
Minister Radosław Sikorski said that he would nominate Minister Plenipotentiary Piotr Serafin for the position of Permanent Representative of Poland to the EU, which means that, in my opinion, the decision will be up to the President.
– explained Wroński.
Call for consultation
He emphasized that Sadoś had been summoned to Warsaw for consultations and had not been dismissed from his position. At the same time, Wroński added that “each ambassador reports to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.”
The Foreign Minister simply decided that Polish interests would be better represented by Mr. Piotr Serafin
– said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
When asked what Sadoś’s current situation was, he explained that “he was drafted, he is still ambassador, but he doesn’t have to work.” He added that regarding Poland’s permanent representative to the EU, “an appropriate application will be submitted to the President, including a request for resignation and appointment, because there cannot be two people in one position.”
Currently, Minister Plenipotentiary Piotr Serafin represents our interests
– emphasized Wroński.

In paragraph 2a, the following is added: “the appointment of the Ambassador or Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the European Union shall be made after obtaining the opinion of the competent authority, in accordance with the rules of procedure of the Sejm.”
