Ziobro: New treaties lead to the liquidation of nation states
On Tuesday, the European Parliament will hold a debate on the report of the European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO), which recommends changes to the EU treaties.
At a conference in the Sejm, Zbigniew Ziobro, speaking about proposals for changes to European law, said that “these treaties essentially lead to the abolition of nation states and the creation of one European state instead of the EU.”

Ziobro argued that the new treaties would give the European Commission “the ability to interfere in the internal affairs (of member states) in a way unprecedented in history.”
This is in fact a progressive attack on Polish sovereignty aimed at the liquidation of the Polish state. Sovereign Poland will never agree to this.

We demand that all political parties in parliament be equally consistent in opposing these changes that deprive Poles of influence over their daily reality, everyday life.

He also said that the EU’s conditionality mechanism, the rule of law mechanism, “is a whip against sovereign states used to extract consent for the reconstruction of the EU as a union of sovereign, equal nations.”
What else does changing treaties mean in practice?
SP politician Sebastian Kaleta added that the proposals for changes to the treaties include abolishing the veto right while at the same time granting new EU powers.
Foreign policy is transferred to the EU without the right of veto, defense policy is transferred to the EU without the right of veto, the EU sets up a European army and the EU must decide by qualified majority what its size is, what its armament is, which participates in the construction thereof.

He added that after the treaty changes, the EU will have the right “to impose taxes on the heads of Poland without veto power, and the European budget should be adopted without veto power.”
Proposed changes
Representatives of five political groups have agreed on the content of the report of the European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO): the European People’s Party (EPP), the Social Democrats (S&D), the Liberals (Renew), the Greens and Left . It contains proposals for 267 amendments to both Treaties – on the European Union and on the functioning of the European Union – and consists of 110 pages.
The main proposed changes include the abolition of the principle of unanimity in EU Council voting in 65 areas and the transfer of powers from Member State level to EU level. by creating two new exclusive EU competences – in the field of environmental protection and biodiversity (Article 3 TFEU) and a significant extension of shared competences (Article 4), which would cover seven new areas: foreign and security policy, border protection, public health, civil protection, industry and education.
The vote on the adoption of the report will take place next Wednesday. If this happens, it will be discussed by the Council of Ministers for European Affairs on December 12. According to the Spanish Presidency, there is sufficient majority to submit the proposal to the European Council, which, by a simple majority, can convene the Convention provided for in the Treaty, composed of representatives of the Member States and the EU institutions. The Convention’s task is to work on a treaty, which it then submits to the European Council. The President of the European Council convenes an intergovernmental conference and the agreed treaty is then submitted to the Member States for ratification.
