Appointing a prime minister is not a race. Opposition politicians are eager to take power, but there is a constitution that must be respected, Marcin Przydacz, head of the presidential Office for International Policy, said on Republika Television.
Consult with the president
On Tuesday and Wednesday, at the invitation of the head of state, consultations will take place in the presidential palace with representatives of the individual electoral commissions that will be represented in the new Sejm. The meetings will take place with each of the election committees separately, in the order according to the results achieved by these committees in the elections.

The first round of talks will take place on Tuesday – with PiS and KO
Minister Przydacz was asked on TV Republika on Monday evening about the planned meetings and what will result from them.
Two important meetings tomorrow. By invitation, representatives of the two electoral commissions that achieved the highest results will come to the presidential palace – the first, of course, the Electoral Commission of Law and Justice, the winner of the elections. Representatives of the Civic Coalition will also visit the palace. This is the first round of discussions
– pointed to the head of BPM.
The second round, he added, is scheduled for Wednesday and will include meetings with three committees: Third Way, New Left and Confederation.
We’ll see how these conversations go. These conversations are not just about a math puzzle or a post-election puzzle. They are also supposed to concern important issues (…) economics, security, politics
– Przydacz noted.
“Appointing a prime minister is not a race.”
The presidential minister emphasized that “appointing the prime minister is not a race.”
The government works, the government functions, Prime Minister (Mateusz) Morawiecki implements policy. Of course there is a new hand, a new Sejm, and this new Sejm will give a vote of confidence to the new Prime Minister. Will this take place in the so-called first constitutional step, the second or the third, reality will tell
– noted the minister.
I understand that opposition politicians, somehow very unnaturally, are already eager to sit down and take power, but there is still a constitution that must be respected. I also call on opposition politicians to respect the constitution; after all, they have referred to its provisions very intensively over the past eight years. I don’t want to believe that they did this purely out of opportunism, without any literal attachment to its provisions
– he emphasized.
Three possible steps
The constitution provides for three possible steps in selecting the government after the elections. In the first, the president plays a major role, who, among other things, appoints the prime minister. If this attempt fails, the Sejm takes the initiative. If the parliamentarians fail to form a government, the initiative returns to the president.
Last week, the National Electoral Commission announced the official results of the parliamentary elections. According to her, PiS won 194 seats in the Sejm elections, KO – 157; Third way – 65; New Left – 26; Confederacy – 18.
