In a joint statement scheduled for early next week, the leaders of the opposition parties will say that we have reached agreement on the most important issues: we have a coalition and a majority in the Sejm; it is known that the Prime Minister will be the head of PO, Donald Tusk – Mariusz Witczak (KO) told PAP.
When asked in an interview whether it had already been decided that the leaders of the opposition parties would make a joint statement early next week, the politician replied: “of course.” As he said: “It doesn’t take a political genius to know that the leaders will say: we have a coalition, we have a fantastic majority in the Sejm and that we will rule in harmony for the next four years.”
This is what the leaders will say: yes, we have reached agreement on the most important issues, we know that Donald Tusk will become Prime Minister, it is a done deal
– noted Witczak.
Asked whether the joint statement would announce the signing of a coalition agreement or just a statement on joint governance, the politician said he “would not look for such formal statements”, although he did not rule out that agreements would be signed .
I would like to remind you that in 2007 we governed without a coalition agreement with PSL. In 2011 it was similar. We operated with PSL for eight years without a coalition agreement, so I don’t attach much importance to it.
– he said.
It’s about responsibility and competence, which outweigh papers
– he emphasized.
““It gives PiS time.”
President Andrzej Duda plays the PiS game; if he does not come to his senses and entrust the mission of forming the government to Mateusz Morawiecki or Elżbieta Witek, it will mean that he wants to buy time for PiS to sweep things under the carpet – MP Mariusz Witczak (KO) told PAP .
Next Tuesday and Wednesday, at the invitation of the Head of State, consultations will take place in the Presidential Palace with representatives of the individual electoral commissions that will be represented in the next Sejm. The meetings will take place with each of the election committees separately, in the order according to the results achieved by these committees in the elections.
The president is playing the PiS game and it is extremely damaging. Nowadays it is clearly visible that the president cares about the interests of the party, and not about the interests of Poles. After all, he knows very well who now has the parliamentary majority
– MP Mariusz Witczak (KO) told PAP when asked about the president’s actions.
The politician emphasized that the democratic opposition parties were given a strong mandate from society to govern; won in the Senate and the Sejm, where they will have 248 seats.
I cannot remember any government having had such a significant parliamentary majority in the last thirty years. This is an extremely powerful mandate. In the last term, PiS bought votes and tried to build a majority, today the situation is very stable
– said Witczak.
He also pointed out that it was the Poles who decided who had the parliamentary majority, and not the arrangements and “negotiations behind the scenes.” Therefore, as he said, President Duda must entrust the mission of forming the government to a person appointed by the parliamentary majority.
Any other move by the president only buys PiS time
– he assessed.
The politician pointed out that there are increasing voices that the president will convene the first session of the Sejm “at the latest possible date”, that is, around November 13 or 14.
If the president does not come to his senses by then and actually transfer the mission of forming the government to Mateusz Morawiecki, or the Marshal to Elżbieta Witek, it means that he wants to buy another two weeks to sweep things under the carpet sweep. This will be a shame, but also proof that the president has never been above division, just a PiS politician.
– he said.
The president, who will take advantage of the so-called constitutional deadlines, gives PiS time to clean up evidence and buy more and more paper shredders
– added Witczak.
According to him, such an action is ‘to the detriment of the state’.
Because our interest is to release the KPO money as soon as possible and we will implement it soon, but we have to go to government to fulfill certain tasks.
– he said.
Poland’s recovery after (Jarosław) Kaczyński is the priority of the coalition, which has received public support. Poland wants money from KPO, they want a country in the EU, they want a strong country on the international arena. They want all important issues to be announced by the parties that won the elections and will have almost 250 seats in the Sejm.
– added.
Referring to the issue of unblocking EU funds from the KPO, Witczak was asked about PO leader Donald Tusk’s visit to Brussels, scheduled for next week.
First of all, it is more than a strong signal to the EC and EU structures that the elections in Poland were won by pro-EU parties that declare that they want to restore the entire rule of law in Poland.
– he noted.
During our eight years in power, we were a pioneer in the use of EU funds. We were presented as an example of institutional order in Europe and in the world and as a model of a modern state, well built in terms of a democratic constitutional state. So we have a positive history and today we have a strong social mandate. This is more than a signal to the EU structures
– he assessed.
In his opinion, “it is already a done deal that the money will be released, because the EC knows that we will do everything to restore all norms regarding the rule of law.”
The president can of course oppose it, but this means that he will oppose the sovereign’s decision. He has done this before, but now his situation will be much more difficult. Metaphorically speaking, if the president blocks change, he will be cursed. It’s funny for now, but it can be both funny and cursed
– added.
The first session of the Sejm after November 11
Presidential Minister Małgorzata Paprocka asked on Wednesday when and to whom President Andrzej Duda would entrust the mission of forming a new government and said that – looking at how the regulations were implemented by all subsequent presidents – the mission of forming a government was in fact always entrusted to the party in the first step, which won the elections. When asked whether the mission to form the government will be given to a representative of the party that won the elections – PiS – or to a representative of the opposition coalition that has a majority in the Sejm, the presidential minister replied that the constitution “This issue is absolutely up to the president’s discretion.”
On Friday, the head of the President’s Office, Paweł Szrot, noted in an interview with TVN24 that all circumstances indicate that the first session of the Sejm of the new term will take place on November 13 or 14. As he emphasized, nothing will be “extended” beyond what is provided by law.
