EU meeting in Granada “failed” due to absence of leaders of Azerbaijan and Turkey, writes Policy.
According to the newspaper, European leaders failed to make progress on conflict resolution issues due to the lack of representation at the summit of key players of these regions, especially Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Former Members of the European Parliament accepted Resolution calling on the European Union to impose sanctions on Azerbaijan over the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The document states that the AP called for sanctions against those in the Azerbaijani government “responsible for numerous ceasefire violations and human rights violations in Nagorno-Karabakh.”
The European Parliament also called for reconsidering the development of cooperation between Brussels and Baku and reducing dependence on Azerbaijani gas imports.
The decision was supported by 491 MPs, nine voted against and 36 abstained.
This decision is not legally binding.
