I don’t know what day it is but I ask Siri and she tells me instantly. To give an example, he says I’m on Tuesday, and I immediately get an idea of the situation. The day before yesterday was Sunday, and the day after tomorrow will be Thursday. Thinking of it this way, the week becomes a physical place that I must pass through, such as going from one street corner to another or passing through subway stations. There are six metro lines in the city where I live, I think I would like to add the line of the week to these. I just woke up on Tuesday. I look out the window and the atmosphere really smells of Tuesday. Tuesday is a good day to go to the market, so I got dressed and headed out to Mars street, hoping to return from shopping with a few fresh swordfish fillets.
Already lined up at the fish market, the lady at the front turns and asks me what day it is today.
“Tuesday,” I tell him.
“I was convinced it was Wednesday,” he says.
“Everyone gets off at the station they want,” I assured him. If that’s how you feel, no one can stop you from living Wednesday.
-Thanks -he replies- but I like to follow the rhythm of others. If everyone is Tuesday, so am I.
Some Sunday afternoons I decide on Monday as I don’t like this part of the week. So I take a walk in the neighborhood and see how people from the Monday dimension live on Sunday. Luckily the days aren’t watertight compartments: Before you go any further than Friday, you can look at Saturday and see how it’s presented.
“They’re announcing it’s going to rain this Saturday,” my wife said when I came back from shopping with two fresh swordfish fillets.
“Well, we’re staying one more day on Friday,” I tell him.
“But I look forward to the rain,” he says.
“Then let’s go to Saturday,” I happily finish.
The week has an incredible plasticity. If we wake up on a Thursday and say it’s Wednesday again on the radio, we’ll accept it without any problem. The harder stuff we swallow.
