White Wines under ten euros: a curiously rich guide

Long ago the idea that white wines lingered behind red ones faded. Today, the scene is crowded with standout whites from Spain, from celebrated Rueda to breezy Galician Atlantic varieties, sunlit wines from the south, and Mediterranean delicacies that pair beautifully with coastal fare. With budget in mind, sommelier Juanjo Soria, head waiter at the Michelin-starred Canvas in Valencia, curated a shopping list of white wines priced under ten euros. Here is a thoughtful selection that proves great value can also mean great character.

Astobyza 2021.

Very interesting wines emerge from Txakoli-inspired groups. Fresh, lively whites that invite conversation after every bite. When acidity is desired, a ceviche makes a perfect partner. Price: €8.90.

The cuckoo sang the frog song of 2021.

Barco del Corneta crafts a Verdejo that blends two vineyards of differing ages and altitudes, one in La Seca and one in Aldeanueva del Codornal. The result is a balance that goes beyond tropical fruit, with mineral notes, hints of anise, and a touch of lemon caramel. A complex, satisfying white for about €9.50.

Atance Tub No. one.

A Mediterranean-leaning white consisting of 70% Merseguera and 30% Malvasia. Merseguera provides freshness while Malvasia lends a creamy sweetness without drying too much. A versatile match for dishes with a sweet edge, such as corn or sweet potatoes. From Grapes winery, priced at roughly €7.50.

A flower is beautiful.

The Treixadura monovarietal delivers bright freshness, notable minerality, and a crisp, citrusy acidity. It stands up well to an entire menu because of its versatility. Produced by Coto de Gomariz, the wine carries a Galician heritage and is known for its floral lift. Price around €9.50.

White achilla flower 2021.

100% Merseguera with a remarkable quality-price ratio. Sourced from abandoned vineyards at an altitude of 900 meters, this fresh white from Terra D’Art spends three months in oak, adding body and a white-flower aroma. It pairs beautifully with shrimp and corn dishes and is priced near €9.95.

Eye of the rooster 2019.

Originating in the venerable Macharnudo estate in Jerez, this Palomino Fino-based wine remains unfortified and shares a mineral, fresh character with Finos. The albariza soil gives a dry, pale touch with a delicate flower impression, priced at about €9.25.

Beautiful Jarana.

A Sherry Fino that keeps white wine lovers engaged. Lustau’s offering is fresh, very dry, and typically aged around four years. It pairs well with nuts or mojama, and even with ham. Price around €9.95.

Dr Loose Gray Slate.

A German-inspired white made from 100% Riesling. Expect tropical fruits like lychee and passion fruit, a round, dry profile, and a bright acidity. A natural match for sushi, listed at €9.40.

Terraprima white 2019.

This blended white from Can Ràfols dels Caus combines xarel·lo, macabeo, and malvasía de Sitges. Each grape adds a layer: xarel·lo provides structure, macabeo brings freshness, and malvasía adds honeyed, floral notes. The vineyard site in the Garraf massif lends a mineral edge. Excellent with white meats, fish, and seafood. Priced at €8.90.

White balloiro 2018.

A Bierzo blend from Luzdivina Amigo that harmonizes Doña Blanca, Godello, and Palomino. Palomino is known in Castilla y León as sherry grape, and this wine is fresh, lightly sweet, and floral. It pairs nicely with pasta in a tomato sauce and tuna, a simple, satisfying combination. Price around €9.30.
