Weight signing for the Vectalia Group marks a pivotal moment for the Alicante-based company. The announcement this Wednesday highlighted the appointment of Berta Barrero as deputy CEO, a veteran executive who most recently led Mobility at a major multinational, Indra, and who has also served as general director of Operations at Renfe. Barrero steps into a trusted advisory role to the current chair and CEO, Antonio Arias, with the task of shaping a new strategic plan that will steer Vectalia’s growth in the years ahead. Sources within the company say the plan will accelerate transformation and help the group meet the mobility challenges of the twenty‑first century.

Barrero hails from Madrid, born in 1975, and brings extensive leadership experience in infrastructure and mobility across both public and private sectors. Her track record includes senior positions at Indra, Renfe-Operadora, and Ineco. She is reported to oversee transformation initiatives and the development of sustainable, safe, and connected mobility solutions across the group.

During her time at Indra, the executive delivered measurable results, contributing to a notable rise in turnover and an improved EBITDA by strengthening the division she led and securing major contracts in the United States, Ireland, Estonia, and the United Kingdom. At Renfe, she broke new ground as the first woman to hold a managerial post in the company’s industrial operations, taking the helm as a train maintenance manager and driving operational improvements.

Several people familiar with the organization note Barrero’s role as a key ally to the chairman and CEO, bringing a hands‑on approach to accelerating Vectalia’s strategic evolution and enhancing the value proposition for sustainable and safe mobility. The focus remains on transforming the company to meet evolving mobility paradigms, including urban, intercity, and on‑demand transport across multiple markets.

She holds a master’s degree in Rail Systems (ICAI) and an executive master’s in management development from ESADE. Barrero is also an honorary member of the UITP council and was recognized with the Spanish Road Association 2023 Medal of Honor for Merit.

A diversified group

Vectalia serves more than 5,000 employees and operates urban, intercity, and on‑demand networks in Spain, France, and Morocco. The group has expanded into assistive mobility services, including managed parking facilities, tow services, car parks, bus stations, and eco‑sustainable last‑mile delivery. This broad portfolio positions Vectalia as a comprehensive mobility provider across multiple sectors and geographies.

Vectalia adds 15 electric vehicles to its transport fleet

The company is also recognized for its service footprint, which includes specialized cleaning services for rail networks, corporate facilities, shopping centers, and private security and event management services. The expansion of the fleet with electric vehicles signals a commitment to cleaner, more efficient urban transportation and aligns with broader sustainability goals across its networks.
