Indra has reached a binding agreement to acquire Park Air, a prominent UK subsidiary specializing in aerospace and defense communications systems. The company disclosed the transaction in a statement issued this Friday, noting that the deal value will not be disclosed. This move signals Indra’s strategic intent to broaden its footprint in civil and military communications while strengthening its ability to deliver end-to-end solutions to customers across the global market.

The acquisition is presented as a complementary step for Indra, aligning with the group’s long-term plan to grow its portfolio and capabilities. Led by executive chair Marc Murtra, the company is expanding its capacity to design, integrate, and manufacture advanced communication networks that support critical operations in both peaceful and security contexts. Park Air’s strengths are seen as a natural fit to accelerate this evolution and to reinforce Indra’s presence in key defense and mobility sectors.

Park Air stands out as a leader in ground-to-air radio systems. The company designs, manufactures, and sustains radios used in air traffic management worldwide, with two primary product lines addressing civilian and military markets. This dual-market expertise positions Park Air to contribute valuable radio technology and domain knowledge to Indra’s existing product suite, enabling quicker deployment of enhanced communications capabilities across multiple platforms.

Major customers for Park Air include air navigation service providers, airports, system integrators, and government military organizations. Ground-to-air radios are essential for maintaining continuous, reliable communication with aircraft throughout takeoff, flight, and landing phases, ensuring safety, efficiency, and situational awareness in busy airspaces.

Indra explained that the acquisition does not itself include Park Air’s radio systems within Indra’s existing product catalog. Rather, the deal expands the company’s portfolio by incorporating Park Air’s complementary technologies and expertise, broadening the range of integrated solutions that Indra can offer to its customers.

In addition to the acquisition, Park Air and Indra have joined forces as partners on the United States Federal Aviation Administration’s Nexcom Version 3 tender. The FAA’s Nexcom V3 program aims to modernize ground-to-air communications by replacing aging radios that are reaching the end of their service life, a project that promises to deliver improved reliability and security for critical air operations.

For Indra’s president, this strategic move will provide the group with enhanced engineering and manufacturing capabilities for complex electronic systems. The expansion into Park Air’s domain is expected to enable more robust development cycles, higher production efficiency, and better support for large-scale defense and civil aviation programs.

Murtra emphasized that the newly acquired capabilities are highly synergistic with Indra’s current portfolio. The combination is anticipated to enable growth across existing customer relationships while unlocking opportunities in new business areas within aerospace, defense, and mobility industries. The collaboration should also help accelerate innovation and shorten time-to-market for sophisticated communications solutions.

Indra noted that the transaction is expected to close in the second half of the year, subject to customary regulatory approvals. As the deal progresses, both companies are likely to focus on integration planning, customer continuity, and governance alignment to ensure a smooth transition while preserving the strengths that Park Air has built in its core markets.
