Valencia Court Convicts Caregiver for Elder Neglect

Valencia Eighth Criminal Court sentenced a caregiver to two years in prison for neglecting a 93-year-old woman who needed special protection. The caregiver, a non-professional who looked after the elderly person at the request of the deceased’s son and under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Welfare, failed to provide basic care and due attention for months. Her focus appeared to be more on the family business, including a grocery store run by her husband, rather than on the well being of the elderly woman who required consistent, attentive oversight.
