The Minimum Living Income (IMV) arrived in May reaching 605,696 households where 1,820,944 people live, marking year over year increases of 31.2 percent and 36.3 percent respectively, according to statistics from the National Social Security Institute INSS.
The average payment per household stood at 488.7 euros, and the total payroll for this month rose to 358.3 million euros.
According to Social Security, 67.5 percent of IMV recipient households in May were families with children (408,584), including 105,918 single-parent homes. Looking at the beneficiary profile, 41.9 percent are minors, representing 750,665 individuals.
By gender, 66.8 percent of the holders and 53.5 percent of the beneficiaries are women. This is a non contributory Social Security allowance aimed at preventing poverty and social exclusion for people living alone or in a household that lacks sufficient resources to cover basic needs. The IMV guaranteed income rises by 6.9 percent this year, while child allowances remain unchanged from 2023, at up to 115 euros per month.

This benefit can be combined with other income, including wages. It is not limited to people with no income or to the unemployed; it also supports households with low incomes or precarious jobs. It should be noted that the IMV is not a fixed sum, so the figures shown in the table do not reflect the amount received by every family. Instead, the payment depends on household income. The IMV is granted to families with incomes below those thresholds, provided they meet the other requirements, and the amount is calculated to bring the household income up to that minimum level and will take into account the family’s earnings to reach that target.
