There has been a shift in the case under investigation, which concerns an alleged stabbing at a residence. The incident was attributed to a husband who claimed his wife was responsible for the knife attack, leading to his arrest on suspicion of attempted murder. As inquiries progressed, investigators from the Homicide Group found insufficient evidence to prove the husband’s involvement in the stabbing. Consequently, the man was released while the wife remained detained for allegedly illegal detention and mistreatment.
The incident occurred around 10 o’clock at night last Tuesday in a home located in the Cala Major area of Palma. A 58-year-old Moroccan woman contacted emergency services and reported that her Dutch husband, also 58, had been stabbed in the chest. Local police and national police officers promptly responded to the scene. They administered aid to control the bleeding until medical personnel arrived at the location so they could take over care.
Authorities interviewed both parties. The wife’s account initially described a stabbing that could have occurred in a bar or on the street, without clearly identifying the perpetrator. The husband, however, claimed responsibility, stating that he stabbed himself in the chest with the intent to kill him. He positioned the weapon to inflict fatal injury, according to that account.
Medical responders from the regional health system arrived shortly after. The victim’s vital signs stabilized, and he was moved to a mobile ICU unit before being transported to Son Espases University Hospital, where his condition remained serious. In parallel, investigators detaining the wife charged her with attempted murder.
Self-harm to prompt arrest
From that moment onward, investigators from the Homicide Group worked meticulously to reconstruct the sequence of events and assess the extent of the wife’s involvement in the chest wound. As more evidence emerged, authorities began to question the wife’s participation in the stabbing and leaned toward the possibility that the husband inflicted the injury himself as a means to compel his wife’s arrest.
The statements provided by the couple during the early stages of the inquiry were scrutinized in detail. With each passing hour, the credibility of the wife’s account diminished, while the investigators increasingly regarded the husband as the one who caused the injury. Inside Son Espases Hospital, staff informed the victim of the evolving legal situation, noting that the husband had been charged with illegal detention and mistreatment, whereas the wife was slated for formal judicial processing that week but released after the initial steps of the case.
