Without considering the position of President Andrzej Duda, the Sejm Speaker Szymon Hołownia has moved to terminate the mandates of Members of Parliament Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik. There were attempts to deliver documents to the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration and his former deputy during a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Administration and Internal Affairs, which drew a lot of attention from Roman Giertych, a Civic Coalition MP facing legal proceedings. The parliamentarians did not adopt resolutions.

Giertych publishes the recording of the assignment

At the Administrative Committee, Kamiński and Wąsik received a formal notice from the Sejm indicating the expiry of their mandates. They refused to take delivery of the documents, a move that did not hinder the official action from taking place.

– Roman Giertych, a Civic Coalition MP, posted on Platform X a recording of the sequence of events.

During the proceedings, Stanisław Zakrzyczymski, the director of the office of the Sejm Speaker, entered the room where the committee was operating. Acting on the Speaker’s orders, he attempted to hand over to Wąsik and Kamiński the decisions stating that their immunity would lapse, as noted by Maria Janyska, Vice-President of KAISW. The MPs refused to accept the documents.

The lawyer for Giertych, who shares the commission’s recording, expressed satisfaction with the disclosure while noting ongoing legal challenges faced by him. He has spent much of the year outside Poland, including during the current election campaign. At Wiejska 4/6/8 he appeared alone for the opening session of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland in its 10th term and had previously not attended to receive the MP certificate.

The case of Wąsik and Kamiński

The Sejm Speaker Szymon Hołownia did not align with the President of Poland Andrzej Duda, who repeatedly emphasized that the pardoning act issued in 2015 for Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik remains in effect.

On December 20, the Warsaw District Court delivered a final sentence of two years in prison for Kamiński and Wąsik, and one year in prison for two former CBA heads involved in the “land scandal.” On the following day, Hołownia issued a decision allowing the parliamentary mandates of the former head and deputy head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administrative Affairs to expire.

The lawyer representing the convicted PiS MPs requested halting the proceedings, citing the presidential act of clemency, according to Radio Zet.

According to observers, Hołownia decided to signal to PiS MPs that action was imminent, choosing to hand over the documents at a moment of heightened scrutiny. Critics view this as a departure from the campaign rhetoric and early-term statements heard in the Sejm.
