Junior Eurovision marks its 20th anniversary with a star-studded show in Yerevan

This Sunday, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest celebrates two decades of music and memories at the Demirchian Arena in Yerevan, Armenia. Sixteen countries are ready to compete for the top prize, with Spain among them. Spain will be represented by Carlos Higes performing a vibrant Latin pop song titled Miss, a catchy collaboration written by Carlos Higes, Will Taylor, Primoz Poglajen and Michael James Down. The Spanish team includes the talents of dancers Mauro, Juan Diego, Adrián, and Felipe, who will be guided in a choreography crafted by Vicky Gómez. The staging is led by artistic director Marie-Sophie Kreissl from Austria, with vocal coaching by Natalia Calderon and Raúl Amor, a veteran RTVE contributor who has helped on six editions of the festival, handling the costumes.

Voting is free and online, with each country casting votes for its own entry. Opened last Friday, the online ballot runs on the official site JESC.tv, two days before the final. Viewers will see all 16 candidates and will choose their three favorite songs. Voting closes just before the Grand Finale begins and reopens for 15 minutes after all shows have concluded.

Carlos Higes has received messages of encouragement from supporters, including Chanel, who wrote on Twitter: “Everyone is with Carlos today! Come on, little one! I’ve already told you everything privately… ENJOY!”

Mora closes her message by thanking Higes for sharing this journey toward Yerevan: “No matter what happens this afternoon, I promise to always stand by you and support you in whatever you pursue. You’re a remarkable person and performer, and our dance team is incredibly proud.”

According to the festival directive, the team praised Higes for his professionalism from a young age, noting his warmth and dedication. Even in the busiest moments of the week, he managed to bring smiles, support colleagues, cheer the delegation, and engage with the Eurofan community, a testament to his character and talent.

Emotion runs high as the countdown continues. Eva Mora, head of the TVE delegation, shared a heartfelt message: “The moment has arrived. You will take the stage and turn a dream into reality. I could not imagine a better partner for this wonderful journey.”

Voting ends at 16:00, just before the grand finale begins, with viewers from each country able to support their own entry online for free. The event promises 16 unique performances, including a Spanish entry that captivates with its infectious rhythm and melodic energy.

The Spanish act, led by Carlos Higes in his eighth appearance, will perform the song Miss, a lively Latin pop tune co-written by Higes, Will Taylor, Primoz Poglajen and Michael James Down. Sixteen nations will compete for the trophy this Sunday at the Demirchian Arena in Yerevan, Armenia.
