Carlos Higes Prepares Spain’s Junior Eurovision 2022 Performance
Carlos Higes has already prepared his show for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022, delivering a memorable second rehearsal of his entry Miss. The Spanish representative stepped onto the Karen Demirchyan stage in Yerevan, Armenia, this Friday, delivering the second individual run-through of a performance that showcases a bold, energetic presence and a strong vocal delivery. The overall impression from this rehearsal was one of confidence, with the young artist exhibiting a high level of poise and command on stage.
“The truth is I had a great time. We ran through three passes and the third was outstanding; I had a fantastic experience,” Carlos Higes stated in a press release distributed to media by RTVE. He spoke about the importance of how the performance feels on stage and what it communicates to the audience, emphasizing personal connection and stage presence above all else.
Accompanied by Mauro, Juan Diego, Adrian and Felipe, Carlos appeared in an all-white ensemble that underscored a sense of purity and focus during the second test. The Austrian stage team spent about 30 minutes at Karen Dermichyan to finalize the landscape of the act, refining the lighting and visual cues to best suit the overarching concept. Marie-Sophie Kreissl highlighted close-up moments designed to convey joy, charisma, and the distinctive charm of the Valencian artist captured on screen.
The Spanish staging presents a contemporary concept intended to resemble a music video, as explained by the creative director. Carlos would interact with the dancers to create the impression of a boy group on stage. Dressed in sleek, modern suits, the performers would stand out against dark LED content, generating a striking visual contrast that amplifies the song’s energy.
Viewers will be immersed in a neon-infused world featuring greens, magentas, and blues, with straight lines and palm trees projected across giant screens to heighten the fun atmosphere. The staging includes the famous Miss-challenge and other choreography elements performed by massive shadows of Carlos on the LED backdrop. The lighting design and tubular structures surrounding the stage complement the large LED display and intensify the song’s dynamic accents, contributing to a heightened sense of momentum. Pyrotechnic surprises are also planned to cue a party-like moment and heighten the track’s climactic lift.
During the rehearsal, the team described the setup as comprising fourteen camera positions and around seventy shots, balancing rapid transitions in certain sections with slower shifts in the bridge to reflect Carlos’s emotional journey. The act will feature split-screen effects and six animated dancers who will join Carlos on stage, adding layers to the performance as overlays that enrich the visual narrative.
Carlos’s personal charm and smile are expected to be key elements in harmonizing the elaborate choreography with expansive video footage. The aim is to invite the audience at the Karen Demirchyan Hall to join in the three-minute celebration as the tempo escalates toward the climax of the performance.
As part of the youth edition, viewers in any country can vote online for their favorite acts through the official site jesc.tv. Voting is scheduled to open this afternoon at 20:00 on the festival’s official platform and will close shortly before the show begins on Sunday, 11th, at 16:00. Votes will reopen for a 15-minute window after all performances conclude. The organizers will tally the recorded votes using a proportional system. Public voting accounts for 50% of the final score, while the remaining 50% comes from a professional jury. Carlos and his dancers have urged supporters to vote, stating that every vote is a smile and a sign of encouragement for the team.
