The Judicial Police of the Civil Guard reported that a teacher at an institute in Murcia was arrested on accusations of sexually abusing about a dozen students. The Armed Institute and the Ministry of National Education confirmed the detention, which occurred on Monday. The Education Inspectorate has begun the appropriate actions in response to the case.
The incident unfolded at a secondary education institute located in the city’s urban area.
In one week, the number of minors reporting inappropriate contact has doubled
The inquiry began last week when the Totana police, who alerted authorities, learned that the teacher responsible for physical education allegedly touched several students.
Role of the guardian representative
Protective agents visit schools to discuss issues such as bullying, absenteeism, drugs, gender-based violence, social media, and personal relationships. Their purpose is to safeguard students, enter their world to warn them about potential dangers, and help them feel safe.
In this case, some victims who trusted a guardian officer from Totana Local Police shared their experiences. The youths described inappropriate touching by the teacher during class, with these events reportedly taking place during this school year.
The teacher denies the accusations, saying any contact occurred during gymnastics instruction
Given the seriousness, the Totana guard informed the Civil Guard, the body authorized to carry out the investigation and determine what happened.
Once the suspect was identified, investigators proceeded with a statement from him. They chose to first interview the victims to gather their accounts in more detail. Over the course of the investigation, the number of students alleging sexual contact expanded.
IES Education’s response
After collecting sufficient evidence, authorities proceeded with the arrest of the suspect, a Spanish national. The institute promptly notified the Ministry of National Education following the arrest.
The teacher, facing multiple charges, was held overnight at the Armed Institute facilities. He is to appear before the Totana Night Court as part of the judicial process.
If the accused denies the allegations, authorities will determine whether the acts occurred in the context of physical education practice or if they carry sexual implications outside legitimate instruction.
Ongoing investigation by the ministry
The Education Department is awaiting further action from the Civil Guard as the case unfolds this week.
Officials state that there have been no formal complaints lodged by the school or the education community until now, according to available information.
The institute administration reported the incident to the Ministry on the day of the arrest, prompting a formal review.
Education Inspectorship has initiated related actions and reiterated that a formal investigation is in progress as per protocol in such cases.
Asked about possible precautionary measures for the teacher, the Ministry replied that any steps would follow the guidance of the authorities conducting the investigation.
