In Kamchatka, the Yelizovo city prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into a mass illness among workers at the site of a new airport terminal project. The report, sourced from RIA News, notes that the inquiry is focused on the circumstances surrounding a reported foodborne illness that affected a significant portion of the workforce.
According to statements from the prosecutor’s office, forty-one individuals were admitted to hospitals with symptoms consistent with food poisoning. All affected workers had shared a meal at a cafe located within the construction zone, raising questions about meal preparation, food handling, and compliance with health standards at the on-site facility.
Investigators are actively examining the events that led to the incident and are assessing whether sanitary and epidemiological norms were upheld in the cafeteria where the workers eat. The probe also includes an inspection of overall safety and sanitary conditions at the construction site, including the living quarters provided for personnel on site.
Separately, five workers in January in the Krasnoyarsk Territory were reported to have been poisoned by a gas mixture while performing duties at a gas generator. The incident underscored gaps in personal protective equipment and safety protocols during equipment maintenance at a gas production unit. An industrial complex used for the extraction and processing of refractory materials is located in Razdolinsk, adding to the context of industrial safety concerns in the region.
As part of the broader response, authorities opened a criminal case accusing violation of labor protection requirements and safety rules in the workplace. The charge reflects ongoing concerns about how safety measures are implemented and monitored at sites where hazardous materials and heavy machinery are in operation.
Earlier, discussions in the health sector referenced general indicators such as life expectancy trends in Russia for 2023, highlighting ongoing public health considerations alongside industrial safety oversight. The current investigations aim to clarify the facts, ensure worker safety, and reinforce compliance with labor and health standards across construction sites in the region.
