During the peak of summer, members of special National Police units have heightened security in Alicante, focusing on tourist zones to deter property crimes such as theft and robberies in shops and residences. In the second half of August, cavalry units arrived from Valencia to patrol Postiguet Beach and San Juan Beach, reinforcing the street presence and signaling a robust commitment to public safety in key coastal areas.

The Police Station explains that this deployment forms part of Operation Summer 2022, a coordinated effort by the National Police to strengthen services across Alicante during the season. These measures run every summer when it is possible to increase policing throughout the province, with a particular emphasis on beaches, busy districts, crowded zones, and the celebratory events tied to recent patron saint festivities in Elche. The aim is to ensure residents and visitors enjoy a safer environment without unnecessary concerns while maintaining order during peak activity periods.

The goal of these deployments is to raise the level of safety for all citizens and to deter property crimes that tend to rise in areas with heavy foot traffic and large crowds, especially opportunistic thefts. This approach combines visible patrols with targeted operations designed to prevent incidents before they occur, contributing to a calmer experience for both locals and travellers who spend time along Alicante’s coastline and city centers.

In addition to the cavalry reinforcement, service units operate across the province throughout the summer months, employing aerial resources such as drones and helicopters, the Prevention and Response Unit, and dog guide teams that monitor train and bus stations and other high-traffic hubs, alongside general civil patrols.

Agents arriving from special units collaborate to execute various plans the National Police has launched for the season, including Safe Summer and Safe Trade initiatives. These programs focus on managing the large influx of tourists and visitors who choose Alicante as a holiday destination, ensuring a smooth and secure stay. They also strengthen prevention, protection, and rapid response efforts in relation to current security frameworks while adhering to applicable laws in Spain.
