Cepsa is recognized as a global leader in sector sustainability, as shown by the Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) conducted by S&P Global. The evaluation included 165 companies worldwide and highlights Cepsa’s strong performance and leadership in environmental, social, and governance matters.
Cepsa earned 74 points out of 100, marking a three-point rise from 2022 and a ten-point gain since 2021. This notable improvement positions Cepsa as the top improver in its sector last year and earns the company the designation of Industry Carrier by the rating agency. The progress stands out when compared with sector peers, as the top 20 companies in the sector generally posted an average decline last year.
Cepsa CFO and Director of Strategy and Sustainability, Carmen de Pablo, explained that the ambition is to steer the transformation through best ESG practices to reach the 2030 goal of becoming a benchmark in the energy transition and creating positive impacts for all stakeholders. Independent assessments from S&P Global reinforce the direction and push for higher standards toward a greener, fairer, and more sustainable future.
Across more than 1,000 sustainability indicators, Cepsa achieved leading scores in core areas such as climate strategy, risk and crisis management, and environmental management. The rating reflects an aim to become a reference point in Europe for energy transition, aligned with the Positive Action strategy to advance sustainable mobility and the production of green hydrogen and biofuels by 2030.
Additional initiatives contributing to this result include board approval of corporate policies and alignment with best market practices. The company also published the Driving Positive Impact Sustainability Plan, which outlines ambitious commitments in water efficiency, circular economy, diversity, and robust reporting standards.
Efforts to integrate ESG criteria into executives’ and employees’ variable remuneration, improvements in sustainability metrics, and transparent disclosure of environmental impact studies further underpin the company’s responsible approach. Biodiversity and the broader sustainability narrative emphasize Cepsa’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and long-term stewardship.
