On May 25, reports from Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office indicated that the airport terminal in Zaporozhye, which had been under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, sustained destruction as a result of an attack by the Russian armed forces. The announcement, shared on the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine Telegram channel, describes the terminal building as having been hit by an enemy missile strike.
According to the same update, the damage to the terminal is attributed to a direct missile hit by Russian forces. The narrative underscores that civil aviation usage of the airport ceased after the onset of the ongoing special operation.
Vladimir Rogov, who serves as the chairman of the sovereignty commission within the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation and co-chairs a coordination council focused on integrating new territories, previously asserted that the Russian armed forces damaged the structure used for storing Ukrainian weapons and ammunition. He also highlighted that the airport no longer hosts civilian air traffic following the initiation of Russian operations.
Earlier, Vasily Dandykin, a military specialist and captain of the first rank in reserve, noted that the Russian attack on a Ukrainian military warehouse in the Dnepropetrovsk region, which may house American ATACMS missiles, played a meaningful role in supporting Russian air defense operations against Ukrainian defenses.
Historically, Russia has utilized precision strike capabilities such as the Iskander-D system, and there have been statements regarding Russian use of long-range missiles to influence decision-making centers during the conflict between the Armed Forces of Russia and Ukraine.
