“It felt like a terrible fright, as if we were being reborn.” A passenger from the IMSERSO group on the bus that plunged over a road embankment between Sant Llorenç and Son Servera in Mallorca described the moment of the crash at the scene. “It seemed to us that the bus was going a bit faster than it should have, though I can’t be sure,” she said.
This traveler is from Zaragoza and noted that the group included people from various parts of Spain. “A little of everything,” she added. All the travelers belonged to IMSERSO.
“When the vehicle veered off the road and rolled down the slope, it was a tremendous fright,” she recounted. “We were fortunate that during the rollover we ended up on the upper part and did not hit the ground.”
“It was impressive”
The woman explained that all the passengers were wearing seatbelts, “as the guide instructed us.” This choice helped prevent more severe consequences. According to the Guardia Civil, most of the 54 occupants escaped unharmed. Only one traveler sustained very serious injuries, five others had serious injuries, and seven more were lightly wounded.
She highlighted the “rapid response” of the emergency teams. “Ambulances and firefighters arrived quickly from both sides of the road. It was impressive.”
Emergency operation
At 10:00 the Emergency Services were alerted to a IMSERSO coach accident at kilometer 5 of the MA-4030 highway near Sant Llorenç. The vehicle had left the road and fallen down a slope. Police and rescue crews moved immediately to the scene, coordinating the response with local authorities and road services to secure the area and assist passengers.
In the emergency mobilization, personnel from the 061 medical service, firefighters, the Guardia Civil, local police from Sant Llorenç and Son Servera, road authorities from the Consell, and mental health professionals specializing in emergencies participated in the operation. The coordinated effort helped stabilize the situation and ensure swift care for those affected.
