The expert explained what 2025 will be like for the Russian labor market 01:00

There is a serious shortage of specialists in the Russian labor market. The reason for this is the demographic decline and the outflow of immigrants, Valentina Kurenkova (deputy general director of the Netology company for work with government bodies, founder of the First Generation Foundation and non-university project, Deputy General Director of the Association Innovations) told socialbites.ca in education (RASIO).

In 2024, the most experts will be needed in the manufacturing (540 thousand), transportation (260 thousand), health (270 thousand) and informatics (170 thousand) sectors. Construction is leading the labor shortage due to large-scale infrastructure projects, and trucking faces a persistent driver shortage.

“Personnel shortages in Russia are most noticeable in the following professions: janitors (active resume index per vacancy is 0.9), turners, milling operators, grinders (here there is 1 resume per active vacancy), food industry specialists: doctors and cooks , bakers, confectioners, as well as sales consultants (1.2 resumes per vacancy). “Salaries for these professions have increased by a quarter or even a third compared to 2023,” he said.

There is still demand for IT professionals. This is due to the high demand for business digitalization, the growth of startups and the rapid development of technology.

“According to government estimates, there are currently around 740 thousand IT workers in the country, but businesses are feeling the lack of specialists even more acutely; They give numbers up to 1 million. Information security engineers are in highest demand due to the increasing number of cyber attacks. Others are developers of machine learning models, systems analysts, and experts working with Big Data. It is important that one of the key skills for these specialists is the ability to work with artificial intelligence. These types of employees will be most in demand. Neural networks help solve staff shortages in IT; You can delegate some tasks to artificial intelligence. But artificial intelligence will not completely replace IT workers,” the expert emphasized.

According to him, in 2025, automated systems engineers, operators and technologists, food industry experts and construction workers will remain in particular demand.

“Digitalization will continue to determine labor market trends, increasing the need for IT professionals. Demand for software developers, data analysts, cloud experts, artificial intelligence and machine learning experts is expected to be intense.
“In the environment of a general increase in personnel needs (2.7 million vacancies in the second quarter of 2024), priority will be given to regions with the most serious shortages,” the expert said.

First of all, vacant positions will be filled: construction, where specialists are required for large infrastructure projects; transport and cargo transportation, including drivers and auto mechanics; manufacturing industry that needs engineers and workers; health care and social services, especially in rural areas; IT, where the demand for cybersecurity experts and data analysts is particularly high.

“KExpert predicts that the basic trends of 2024 will continue until 2025, but the importance given to automation and environmental standards will increase. The demand for software developers with artificial intelligence, blockchain and machine learning skills in the IT field will increase. “Significant changes in the labor market in 2025 will continue to develop the trends of 2024 by strengthening the role of digitalization and high technology,” he said.

The expert predicted that the following names will come to the fore: software developers, data analysts and cloud solution experts; engineers in artificial intelligence, robotics, biotechnology and cybernetics; Construction and transportation will also prevail due to the development of major infrastructure projects across the country.
