The College of Commissioners, i.e. the entire European Commission, including its head, Ursula von der Leyen, will visit Gdańsk on February 6 and 7, EU Minister Adam Szłapka said. It is worth recalling that the previous external meeting of the European Commission, scheduled for January 9 and 10, was canceled due to the illness of the head of the Commission.
Like the previous meeting, scheduled for January 9 and 10, it will also take place at the European Solidarity Center in Gdańsk. On the first day, commissioners and government representatives will attend a gala dinner; job interviews were scheduled for the next day.
New meeting
The Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka, spoke on Radio Zet about the date of the new meeting, but without specifying the dates, saying that it would take place in the first week of February. In an interview with PAP, EU Minister Adam Szłapka announced that this would take place on February 6 and 7.
Polish Presidency
The European Commission’s visit is linked to the Polish Presidency, which started on January 1 and will last until the end of June. Over the next six months, our country will be responsible for carrying out work in the Council of the European Union, where decisions are made by ministers of EU member states.
The official inauguration of the presidency, under the motto “Security, Europe!”, took place last Friday at the Grand Theater-National Opera. More than 300 official meetings will take place in Poland over the next six months, including 22 informal councils involving EU ministers.
