Best Features in Starfield

Traits grant special bonuses in exchange for certain penalties. For instance, an early game house grants comfort but requires ongoing mortgage payments. It’s wise to consider other potential traits for your hero as well.

Popular

The standout feature lets a character deal more damage when health drops. This ability can turn the tide in critical moments. It is possible to deliberately reduce health to increase lethality. Bounty hunter encounters pop up from time to time, but they are manageable with this boost.

Extrovert or introvert

This choice impacts oxygen use. The introvert option lowers air waste when traveling solo, while the extrovert option saves air when moving with companions. The decision aligns with one’s preferred playstyle.

Enlightened parenting or Universal parenting

A chest filled with unique resources becomes accessible in the Sanctum universe within New Atlantis. This bonus eases early progression.

All available properties in Starfield

For players who want variety or want to test different builds, the full list of traits is worth exploring.

  • Dream house. A personal residence is available. Weekly payments of 500 credits apply until the loan of 125,000 credits is fully paid.
  • Children’s things. Similar to the previous option, returning to the parents’ home is possible, with a 2% income payment ongoing.
  • Hero worshipped. A devoted fan follows the player. This ally aids in battles but can overwhelm with constant chatter.
  • Spread. Vitality and oxygen rise in space but fall on planetary surfaces.
  • Terra Firma. The opposite of Spread, with higher health and air on planets and lower values in space.
  • United Colonies Native. Task rewards from this faction are increased and dialogue lines become unique. Fines rise if other factions press you.
  • Neon street rat. Similar benefits tailored to the Neon setting.
  • Resident of the Freestar Collective Settler. A variation tailored to the Free Stars faction.
  • Alien DNA. Vitality and oxygen rise, but food and medicine effectiveness drop.
  • Empathetic. When a partner appreciates your actions, their sympathy grows faster. Upsetting an ally harms the relationship.
  • The embrace of the snake. Gravity jumps boost vitality and oxygen for a period, but frequent use is necessary to avoid declines in health and air.
  • Taskmaster. If ship damage exceeds 50% of total strength, the ship is repaired automatically. Hiring a team costs double.

Please note that not all properties are compatible. For example, a player can choose only one faction and cannot be both introverted and extroverted.

The best backstories in Starfield

Backstories grant extra skills at the start and provide a solid early advantage. Skills can be upgraded later. A separate guide covers this in more detail. Among the backstories, several stand out as especially useful, with the best choice depending on how the game is played.

Soldier

The best choice for those who prefer direct confrontations. Ballistics boosts damage with ballistic weapons, while Fitness increases oxygen supply and lowers sprint energy costs, offering a clear edge in combat.

Bounty Hunter

This path suits players who want to excel in space battles. Piloting grants access to higher-tier ships, and Targeting Control Systems enables precise targeting of enemy components. A welcome bonus is Boost Pack Training, which reduces fuel use and speeds up recovery.
