In a retrospective view, Resident Evil 4 shifted away from the old routine of blue medallions and softened some tasks with smaller trader orders. This guide explains how to finish all the optional tasks and what rewards players can expect.
Guides for Resident Evil 4
The first side task appears early when the merchant asks players to locate and destroy five blue medallions on the farm. Completing each assignment yields special stones known as Spinellen. These stones cannot be sold, but they can be exchanged for unique items, yellow grass, or gems.
How to find all the blue medallions on the farm
After the first major enemy encounter, players reach a small farm near a windmill. A blue sign to the right of a closed grate by the bridge indicates the trader’s task. The goal is to locate five blue medallions in this area.
First medallion
Turn around and inspect the locked shed. A medallion hangs in the window.
Second medallion
Move to the right and circle around the building housing two cows. The medallion is attached to a wooden beam, so it must be shot through the exterior window.
Third medallion
Opposite this building stands a barn. Enter and look up to spot a medallion.
Fourth medallion
Proceed through the cow pasture and take the road you came from. The medallion is fixed to the building on the right.
Fifth medallion
Return to the closed grate and enter the door on the right. Defuse the explosives, go to the second floor, and cross the wooden platform to the locked shed. Turn around to find the final medallion in this area.
Pest control. How to destroy three rats in a factory
When the trader is first met, a new task appears. It requires eliminating three rats inside the factory from which the player just exited. Return to the long corridor where a resident with a pitchfork walked. At the end, the first rat awaits.
Step back a bit. Two more rats hide in the large room where the ax-wielding man stood.
Adder hunter. How to find three vipers for the trader
Upon reaching the town hall in the village square, the merchant reappears. The order is posted on the wall, asking players to find three snakes. They appear in wooden boxes at random. A single knife strike or a precise firearm shot is enough to defeat them.
The viper takes up two inventory slots, so it is wise to sell them to the merchant right away. Every viper sold counts toward progress.
As noted, snakes appear randomly, but the first viper is usually found in the town hall just before meeting the merchant.
The second viper rests in a box within a small building right after the church.
The final viper can be found inside the Fish Hatchery. Following the water flow and listening for a hiss will help locate one or more snakes there.
Desecration of graves. Which decals on the graves should be destroyed
Upon arrival at the graveyard, the trader’s secondary task is ready. Examine two tombstones bearing identical symbols. A local resident stands nearby. The decals can be removed with a knife or a firearm shot.
How to find all the blue medallions in the quarry and hatchery
Follow the church path until a giant hammer appears. To the hammer’s right, the trader’s order is posted.
First medallion
Kill three dogs and look up. The first medallion hangs from the jetty.
Second medallion
Proceed forward to the pier with the boat. Climb down and turn the camera toward the stairs. A second medallion sits behind the wooden posts.
Third medallion
Backtrack, ascend the stairs, then head to the fish farm. Inspect a small building with two barrels; a medallion is inside.
Fourth medallion
Walk a little farther, descend to the water, and look to the left for a small hole in the wooden wall that reveals the second-to-last medallion.
Fifth medallion
Make your way to the end of the Fish Hatchery, jump down from the platform, turn around, and inspect the red box. Directly beneath the platform, the medallion rests on the right.
Looking for eggs. How to find the golden chicken egg
This quest appears after the battle with the lake monster. Move past the altar and grab the key to the old chapel. An advertisement on the wall to the left points the way.
To complete this, defeat the giant fish and gain access to a boat. That lets players explore small locations around the lake. Swim east, search the area, and you will discover a golden egg.
To finish the quest, selling the egg to the merchant suffices.
Catch me a big fish. How to catch a huge bass
If the church key is in hand, players should not rush back to the quarry. Instead, head to the settlement near the southern lake. A closed door with a cult symbol awaits. Use the cult key to enter. On the left, two barrels and a trader’s notice sit nearby.
Proceed to the boat shed to locate a large fish. A single well-aimed harpoon throw is enough to reel it in.
Angry dog. Where to locate and how to kill a dog for a trader
The trader’s note appears when players return from church with Ashley. The note is to the left of the town hall entrance, right in front of the merchant.
To complete this task, return to the main square and head to the chieftain’s house in the northern map region. Side passages are blocked, but the estate itself is accessible.
On the second floor, inspect the uneven painting to reveal a lever. Activate it and have Ashley lower the ladder.
Go upstairs, read all the diaries, and locate an old camera. When players return to the main street, a creepy dog will appear. It shares the traits of other infected dogs, but with slightly higher health.
Updates will follow soon as this guide evolves.
