Proto-Radiant Worm and Rice Cocoons stand out as some of the rarer finds in Webbed Hollow of Black Myth: Wukong, linked directly to the Elder Cupidworm quest line. This guide explains where to locate the Proto-Worm, how to use it, and how to gather the three rice cocoons that unlock a special spirit.
Guides for Black Myth: Wukong
How to Acquire the Proto-Worm Gluttonous
The first item to locate is the Ravenous Proto-Worm, found in Webbed Hollow by defeating the Elder Cupidworm boss in Leaf Bridge. Players should start at the Keeper’s Shrine, cross the bridge, then turn left from the location where the Grasshopper Guai appears. Ahead lies a chamber filled with five chests, and one of these contains a new medicine recipe. Cutting through the web to the far side brings the Elder Cupidworm into view.
This boss is a massive worm that can spray large amounts of poison. The strategy to defeat it is straightforward: dodge the initial attack when the boss sends out a web and then dives toward the hero; evade the strike. After several assaults, the worm will slump to the ground. Use that moment to deal as much damage as possible.
When the Elder Cupid Worm begins spraying poison and flailing its limbs, retreat to an unreachable distance. Once its attack finishes, the creature will be momentarily unable to move. Strike during that brief window.
Defeating the boss will yield the Proto-Raven Worm.
How to obtain rice cocoons
The next item to secure is Rice Cocoons. They appear during the traversal of Webbed Hollow. A total of three cocoons are required to complete the Elder Cupidworm mission. Players should simply break cocoons found along the route to collect them.
How to Get the Spirit of the Elder Cupidworm
With both key items in hand three rice cocoons and a voracious proto-worm players can begin the Elder Cupidworm quest. Before that, the Ruyi Scroll Secret Area must be unlocked, a special hub where all merchants and vendors are encountered in the game. Unlocking the Scroll of Ruyi ties into the Chen Loong questline. A detailed guide on this subject follows in the companion resources.
Once the Ruyi Scroll is unlocked, visit Chen Lung at the Shrine. If a Ravenous Proto-Worm is in the inventory, he will request its retrieval. After resting at the Guardian’s Shrine and returning, a small proto-voracious worm sits to the right of the baskets. This creature looks harmless, unlike the larger worm faced in the earlier encounter.
The insatiable proto-worm must be fed three rice cocoons, and after consuming them, it must rest again in the Guardian Sanctuary. After this rest, the purple spirit of the Elder Cupidworm appears in the place of the gluttonous proto-worm.
Why the spirit of the Elder Cupid Worm is needed
The spirit transforms the character into the colossal form of a giant worm, the same species encountered in Webbed Hollow. The primary attack is Foul Spray, where poison is spat from the tail and multiple poison pools linger on the ground, enabling widespread poisoning of enemies. As a passive effect, the spirit increases the chance of critical hits while poisoning remains active.
The Spirit of the Elder Cupidworm may not be the strongest ally in the game, but it opens pathways to unique builds that emphasize area-of-effect poison damage.
