How to set up a dedicated server

IN Enhrouded can be played solo, yet the real appeal comes when friends join in. One creator will need to stay online to host, but you can avoid tying the game to a single player by setting up a dedicated server that anyone can reach at any time. This guide explains how to create and secure a dedicated server, along with alternative options.

Download the official dedicated server app. It appears in the Steam library if the game was purchased.

Then follow these steps:

  • Start “Enshrouded Dedicated Server.”
  • Copy the public IPv4 address and save it for later reference.
  • Close the command prompt.
  • In the Steam library, right-click the dedicated server entry, choose “Check,” then select “View local files.”
  • Open wrapped_server.json with a text editor such as Notepad.
  • Change the server name and password, save the file, and close it. Use a strong password if you want online access.

How to set up a firewall

For stable operation, configure a firewall and open the necessary ports. Locate Windows PowerShell via the Start menu or search, run it as an administrator, and paste the following commands then press Enter:

New-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName “Enshrouded Server” -Inbound -LocalPort 15636,15637 -Protocol TCP -Action Allow
New-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName “Enshrouded Server” -Outbound -LocalPort 15636,15637 -Protocol TCP -Action Allow
New-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName “Enshrouded Server” -Inbound -LocalPort 15636,15637 -Protocol UDP -Action Allow
New-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName “Enshrouded Server” -Outbound -LocalPort 15636,15637 -Protocol UDP -Action Allow

After completing the commands, the PowerShell window can be closed. These steps ensure the server remains visible only on the local network.

How to set up port forwarding

To make the server reachable online, port forwarding is required. Open a command line to discover the router’s IP address:

  • Press Win+R.
  • Type CMD and press Enter.
  • Enter ipconfig and confirm.

The default gateway shown is the router’s address. Save the IPv4 address for quick access. In a browser, enter the router’s address such as 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. If prompted, use the credentials provided by the device setup or printed on the router.

Find the port forwarding section, sometimes labeled as applications or game settings. Click Add Line and configure the following:

  • Destination IP — the local computer’s IP address saved earlier.
  • Incoming and outbound ports — 15636 to 15637.
  • Protocols — TCP and UDP.

With these settings in place, a dedicated server will appear in the game’s server list after a brief delay.

Note: If multiple access points exist between the main router and the PC, port forwarding will need to be configured for each point. For simplicity, connect the device directly to the main router when possible.

How to add a server to favorites

Adding a server to favorites speeds up future connections. Follow these steps:

  1. Open Steam.
  2. Choose Display in the top-left, then select Game servers.
  3. Open the The chosen one tab and click the plus sign at the bottom.
  4. Enter the IPv4 address saved at the server start.
  5. Press OK to add the server to the list.

Once the server shows up, connect using the password created earlier. This favorites menu can also be used to log in directly, bypassing the game menu.

A drawback of this approach is that the host computer must stay powered on for others to access the server.

How to create a paid server

If the free options don’t meet needs or a 24/7 server is desired, a paid service can be used. These servers run independently of the host PC, offering lower latency and extra protection against DDOS. GPortal is the primary provider for Enshrouded and can be accessed from within the game’s menu. Server pricing varies with the number of players.

How to create your own world

After launching the game, select Play and choose Host mode. A world supporting up to 16 players can be created for free, but the host must be online in-game. Set a strong password and invite friends to join the server. In Closed mode, players can build or explore solo.
