The 4.5 update for Genshin Impact, released on March 13, 2024, introduces a fresh banner called “Prayer of the Chronicles.” It runs for a limited time and will eventually fade or be replaced. This banner has unique features that distinguish it from standard pulls, and this guide explains what to expect and how to use it effectively.

What are prayers for in Genshin Impact?

In Genshin Impact, prayers are a local gacha mechanic that lets players recruit new characters and weapons. Players spend the local premium currency, Source Stones, which can be earned by exploring the open world, rewarded through gameplay, or bought with real money. This is the primary way to build a team of five-star heroes and equip them with strong weapons such as swords, bows, spears, or catalysts. More details about the mechanics of pulls are covered in a separate guide. [VG Times attribution]

Please note that prayers are not the sole path to new characters. Four-star heroes can join teams after completing specific missions, and some weapon types are obtainable from in-game resources as well.

About the first Chronicle Prayer – Poems of the Morning Wind

The signature aspect of the Chronicles banner is its regional focus. After the 4.5 update and until version 4.6 arrives (from March 13 to April 23, 2024), the prayer “Poems of the Morning Wind” centers on Mondstadt-born characters. It showcases five-star heroes and heroines such as Eola, Albedo, and Klee, alongside standard units like Mona, Diluc, and Djinn. The latter trio also appears in the standard banner. Weapons tied to this Chronicle include Eola’s signature sword, Song of Broken Pines, along with several five-star items usable by other characters — Hunting Path, Sky Atlas, Lighthouse of the Reed Sea, Falcon Sword, Sky Sword, Wolf’s Bane, Prayer to the Sacred Winds, Celestial Majesty, Celestial Axis, and Sky Wing. Note that the Chronicles prayer remains available for the entire update duration, unlike some banners that run for only half the period.

How the Prayers of the Chronicles Work

  • Before the first spin, players choose a target character or weapon. The probability of obtaining the chosen option sits at 50%.
  • If a character is selected, only characters will be granted; if a weapon is selected, the pool includes spears, swords, bows, and catalysts.
  • For every 10 prayers that yield a four-star weapon or character, and for every 90 prayers that yield a five-star item or hero, the game tracks the count of spins. For example, after 50 prayers, there remain 40 spins toward a five-star weapon or character on the next attempt. This tracking continues even if the Chronicles banner ends and the progress is transferred to the new banner. [VG Times attribution]
  • If the chosen character or weapon is not obtained in a given set of spins, players earn 1 fate point. This point guarantees the selection in the next spins. Once the banner ends, Fate points are consumed and reset.

To participate in the Prayer of Chronicles, a special resource called Intertwined Fates is required. These can be acquired in several ways:

  • Purchase from the Paimon Shop using Source Stones.
  • Trade Star Shine at Paimon’s shop.
  • Buy Stardust from Paimon’s shop.
  • Receive the Pearl Anthem as a reward for reaching Battle Pass levels 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50.
  • Reach level 6 in the Permafrost Tree.
